The phrase for the song "Lean wit it, Rock wit it" may not seem like a bad song to you but if you listen to the rest of the lyrics there is cursing and talking about drugs. I've heard it in my sister's car when driving with her but that's not my point. The point is that these rap artists need to stop with the cursing, making black women feel like dirt and talking about drugs. This world is not about that; This world needs peace because of the things in our society that is going on. We need to promote better futures for our young children not to show them how to do a dance when they grow up wanting to do in a club. Our teens and young adults do not need to be in the clubs, they need to be studying to be doctor, nurses, etc. to show the world that there is a future for us young people. Come on let's make a difference, God doesn't like this. Thank you, Eboney Garnett

Well, in response to your comments, I somewhat agree with you, but on the other hand there are some things that should be clarified. First off, it's not just rap music that is promoting this. Rap, pop, rock, and yes, even country have aspects of this. The thing is is that you can't really get away from this. It's everywhere in our world and really, there's nothing we can do. Sure, as parents, you can keep your children from listening to certain types of music, keep them from watching certain television shows, and keep them from reading certain books. But as a whole, the music industry will do anything it takes to make money. Oh and not to mention, there are those labels "Parental Advisory" for a reason.
Thats weird, because the predominant race depicted in these videos are African American, despite the fact that you said it makes black women feel like "dirt". Sure, some, but not all. No generalizations please. Not to mention that most rap labels are an elaborate front for drug trafficking and gang development. But just remember that many people are also on the same path because they listen to pop stars, rock stars (so many older rock stars have died already from--can you guess?--drugs and stds), and even like the previous comment-er, country. Ever heard of the song "Its 5 o'clock somewhere"? (Btw, thats the time where people start drinking) or "Margaritaville" or that una mas cerveza one. (Alcohol might not be the worst drug but it certainly is the most widespread and cause for deaths).
If you're going to hit one genre, you might as well hit them all.

"Thats weird, because the predominant race depicted in these videos are African American, despite the fact that you said it makes black women feel like dirt...."
what are you talking about here?
We have to remember, this music is selling. That is why it is so widespread. The only way to combat it is stop supporting it monetarily, then and only then will we see a change in what is offered.
As a side note....
I don't know about the rest of you, but I have always loved rap music -- from the first rap CD I ever owned - Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg. Granted this isn't the cleanest of material and I was only 12 when I snuck a copy home. If my parents had found out what I was listening to I would have surely been punished. My parents, my mother in particular, was very strict about what media I saw and heard. She blocked MTV when I was 14 and would randomly scan through my music collection to find "offensive" material. I hated how she did this as I grew up. I resented her for taking away MTV (I always dreamed of being a music video director and at the time MTV actually played videos). So I know from personal experience that denying the media will do nothing but force it underground. And in my case, I just went right out and rebought the CDs she trashed with the money she gave me for allowance.
In addition, I grew up to be a law abiding American citizen. I'm not sleeping with everything that walks, I hold down a good job, I plan on putting myself through law school starting this fall, and I've never been arrested or even close to it. I listened to all that trash growing up and I am perfectly fine. Although, the "trash" I listened to as a teen was a hell of a lot better musically than the "trash" teens listen to today -- but that is a whole other blog.
It takes a weak minded person to fall for the glorification of drugs, sex, and rock and roll. Sure the life style may be fun for a while, but soon enough you wake up surrounded by people who don't really care and nothing to show for it.
Love your points. I too listened to all of that growing up. I still listen to and love rap music, old and new. I listen to all other genres as well. Music does not shape who you become, or who you should be. Just like playing video games doesnt cause you to go out and kill people, music is just entertainment. I have never used any type of drug, i'm still a virgin, and I love to go out to clubs and dance. Its music. Simple as that.
