Education is simply not as highly regarded as it once was. With the cut of 14,000 teachers in California as a result of a poor housing market is an alarm, a warning a prelude for the rest of the nation. California's trends tend to trickle across the country much like everything else that sweeps the coast first, i.e. fashion, food, economic trouble, drought. The west tends to set the example for the rest of the country. I am saddened by the recent news because I am a Music Education major. California's cut is just a prelude to the rest of the nation's movement towards lower education standards. I do not think that we should give up. I think that we should spend more time in the media covering issues such as this rather than who our next president will be. It is important to cover the presidential race, however, it is even more important to focus on the nation's infrastructure, which right now is crumbling beneath our feet. Another disturbing fact that hit the news today is the failing economy. Two key issues have raised alarm in my mind, but every station is focusing on Obama and his supposed relation and emulation to a priest with harsh words. With all of the distractions it is truly hard to focus on key issues that are at the core and the heart of this very nation. This issue needs to be addressed by our potential presidential candidates. The issue of Obama's priest is menial on the grand scheme of this nation's "problems". What should our plan be to avert the steps following step one of signs that an infrastructure is in serious trouble?
