Health Care

In the year 2006 we as human have made many advancements and breakthroughs in the science of medicine. New discoveries are made every day to try and help those that are sick and in need. But the problem we still face is that not everyone is able to have health insurance. Sure you don’t need to have it to get help, but without it people are faced with the insane prices of medicines and doctor bills. Most average working families cannot afford to pay those bills making it harder for them to get the medicine they need and deserve. There are a number of reasons why everyone should have health insurance. First off health insurance can pay for services that you use often, such as visiting the doctor. This makes it easier for you to go when you need and not feel like you only can go a few times a year because of the price. Another important factor is that you do not have to pay income tax on health insurance benefits. This gives you a break from some of the many other places you have to pay income tax. With health insurance, you do not have to worry about the cost of care when you are sick, which makes you able to put your mind at ease incase you have an illness. I believe that in order for you to be able to survive and be healthy in this world today, you 100% needed to have health insurance. The prices of hospital visits, doctor visits and any other medical issue will cost more than you can afford. I’ve worked in a physician’s office myself, seeing the faces of people who don’t have health insurance and those that do. With the people who are not insured they don’t want new medicines, they can’t afford them. They dread going to the doctors because if they can’t buy the medicine than what was the point? The disappointment in their eyes is horrible, because they want so badly to be able to take those medicines and be able to not feel stressed financially. Some of the people buy the medicines and are in so much debt it makes life hard for them. The worst case scenario that is possible could be that someone that does not have health insurance could have a fatal disease if not treated and monitored, but with the cost of these high end medicines and treatments they will not be able to do them. Those that have insurance are much more relaxed and are able to help themselves get better by getting the medicines they need. I strongly will back myself up saying how much more of a positive impact you will have in your life if you have health insurance. I thought it was an interesting point that needed to be made.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

I too have worked in a doctor's office, and ironically I made $8.00/hr and did all aspects of the office alone, plus helped with therapy. The other irony is that I did not have health insurance, though I was afforded the benefit of that doctor's speciality. I've also had insurance coverage at other jobs, though due to my low wage, plus cost of insurance premium, co-payment of office visits and pharmacy, time off to go the doctor, and deductibles, constant change in insurance companies, I still could not afford the "alleged benefits" of health insurance coverage. Bottom line, this is the case all too often. And when you add in the cost of family coverage, cases of insurance companies denying payments to many cases, the scenario of so many people who work for the sake of so-called benefits of such coverage it makes matters absolutely horrible.
In a country where we call ourselves progressive and supposedly better than other countries, well, ..obviously we need to look closer at the overall picture of the whole insurance scam.
