The West Wing: The Leak

I think I may have watched my last episode of The West Wing.  It just doesn't hold my interest anymore.  I only started watching the show last season, but I borrowed the first three seasons on DVD from the library, so I had some context.

While some people disliked the campaign trail theme, that was interesting for me because I volunteered on a political campaign for the first time last year.  This season there has been a lot of campaign stuff, but the suspense is gone; since they are spending so much time on Santos and team, it seems a forgone conclusion that they will make him the winner, even though they show him as down in the polls by nine points.

Last week there were some glimmers of interesting moments, as they touched on intelligent design and separation of church and state.  I think Santos handled that issue nicely.

This week, it was all about the leak.  As I predicted way back in April, the leak came from Toby.   Toby gets run through the grinder, then escorted from the building as Bartlett goes on TV to tell the country that the mutinous leaker has been found.

Could it be that the producers of The West Wing are trying to contrast how a Democratic administration would handle a national security leak as compared to a Republican administration?  Certainly Karl Rove and Scooter Libby didn't get so much flack for their leak.  In fact, the story portrayed in Doonesbury of Bush considering Karl Rove as a possible Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after hearing about the leak is probably not so far from the truth.

Anyway, I've had enough of The West Wing for now.  If others among you want to pick up the slack, we welcome new commentators.  And feel free to don the title of "Director of CWWAC" (it's pronounced "quack," and stands for Center for West Wing Analysis and Commentary).

The West Wing is still among the great shows on television. This week's episode, with Toby getting the boot, was abrupt, shocking and - always a West Wing mainstay - completely surprising. It's great television, period. I'm sorry you no longer feel the need to watch it, but it is still the only network show I religiously watch and make sure my Tivo has scheduled.

I dunno why, but I've never watched West Wing

Well no more West WIng, the show finale was last night.
