Where is this world going to?

It seems like the news isn't news anymore. The news is now gossip. Whenever I go to read a newspaper I read more about a celebrity than I do about some event happening in the world. It seems like people care more about what celebritys do, rather than what is gonna happen to them. Not all people are like this but it seems like it from reading from a newspaper. I am connected in many way to the issue about the genocide in Darfur. What makes me mad is that Anna Nicole Smith's death is more publicized than what is happening to the people of Darfur. For those of you that dont know anything about it, what is basically happening is that the Arab speaking Muslims are "cleansing" the Darfur area of Black Muslims. Is that not more serious than Anna Nicole Smith dying? I mean sure I feel bad for her family, or what she has left of them, but I care more about the hundreds of thousands of people that are being raped, starving, and watching horrific scenes in front of their eyes. Back to my main topic, which was newspaper and gossip. When I signed on to check the news on CNN the first few things I saw were:

If you look through most of that stuff, you can pick about six orseven things that were important. The rest is about useless things. What are these things doing on a international site? This is supposed to be about NEWS not about gossip. Britney Spears, Anna Nicole Smith, and some pregnant lady arent as important as things like the war in Iraq, what is going on there, what the peope are doing and what is happening to them. How can they be? It seems as though some sites have more of a concentration on their side rather than what the truth is.

I agree with you 100 percent. I feel that sometimes you have to turn the news off and just relax. Even reading the newspaper you have to ask yourself Is this view biased? Even international papers are taking America's cue on propaganda and hiding secrets. No its not a big conspiracy but you are in a fight for your mind. Public opinion is the war that is fought every day in this country and it is a war we lose. Independant media is something that should be celebrated. THe internet is also a great resource. You can read whats going in Africa from an African newspaper. Seek out truth. It's out there but its also in here. In your mind and in your questions. Like my high school history teacher used to say Turn off the idiot box. Read something revolutionary Cleanse your mind of the brainwashing. I'll even take the words of Dead Prez, the rap group but instead of saying "their schools don't teach us sh**" Im going to say the media aint educating us.

I completely agree. I can't tell you how many times I've told people "Anna died, so what? people die everyday. Do you know how many children die a day? Or adults? Do they get huge week long programs about them or are they constantly in the paper? No, they get a funeral, if that. Sometimes, they don't get anything at all and they are just left there. But heaven forbid Anna not get a week long speal." To be honest, this world is over run by gossip, and somehow celebs have become more important then real issues. I don't care who starves themselves, what makeup they are wearing, who stole whoms boyfriend, or who is on drugs now. Will that EVER help me in life? Will that EVER shape who I am and help me better understand the world? No. Not at all.
