A New American Revolution

Government reform!!!
It seems that every time I say this to someone, they stiffen up as pictures from the French Revolution that they read about in highschool flash through their minds. They see countless bodies strewn across the ground from pictures of African revolutions they saw in the news. They imagine a bloody conflict in which many of their fellow countrymen and women would die. Kind of like a modern American Civil War.

No I'm not like those who want to revive the Civil War of the 1800's. No I don't think that the 'South' should 'Rise Again'. I am totally against a war in our own country. What I am for is the reinstatement of democracy. Our system is so corrupt, it seems virtually impossible to change it as it is now. However, I still retain hope that we can change our own government through legal means. I don't mean I think that a revolution should be conducted by illegal means, but that I don't think that anybody elected can change or pass any laws anymore that would change the way things are now. I hope that that is possible and that's why I hope to enter politics as soon as I'm done with college and have an opportunity to do so.

While I hope that likeminded people will be elected and will change our government as it is now, I do believe that as a last resort, the people of the U.S. should overthrow the Institutions that keep their Government from actually representing them. Right now, people call our government democratic... and it is to some degree, but there are so many flaws that have developed over the years since the Fight for Independence that have made it twisted and corrupt. Politicians(most, not all...) no longer represent the people's views, they represent wealthy businesses and corporations agendas. They'll push whatever policies are pressed upon them by their money-stuffed bureaucratic sponsors.

I'm not promoting violence. I just want my nation to be fairly represented in the government that runs us...

What are your opinions?

Politics are definitly corrupt. One of the biggest problems are people who put funding behind candidates, then expect favorable legislation once they get elected. The problem I see is how do we change that. It is basically impossible for a political candidate to be elected without funding, or funded without backers.

I agree with everything you say, I just can't forsee and path that could quickly and definitly lead to change.

Yeah that's the problem. I guess if I was presented with power and the opportunity I could bring my brain to work out some conclusion but it's hard to when you're not really in control. I think it takes a great person to figure these things out before they have any power in their hands...

We as americans have many rights that others on this planet do not. I am soo proud that my country does a lot of good things, but I am not blind the bad things we do either. Don't misunderstand, it's because I love and respect my country and the sacrifice that our ancestors made for us that I will INSIST that our current governent lives up to those standards.

The problem is that we need to find ways to teach people how to discuss the issues without creating new issues; we are all capable of civilized debate. It is not something that we all are good at, even those who pride themselves on their tolerance can cross the line. It's not always their fault, the stupid line isn't in the same place every time you look for it!.

"Our forefathers brought forth on this continent a new nation conceived in liberty and justice for all." (Abe of course)

Not something to give up lightly, our hopes for that liberty and justice are no less now then they were that day in Gettysberg. The difference is that we now have the technology to reach out to each american and ask their opinon. I think that they should create an official government blog site, so that we can challenge our representatives elected or appointed on their views AND explain to them in our own words whether we support them or not.
