Marijuana is bad Mkay! WHY???

I was reading this great article on former presidential candidate Ron Paul. I wish that more people would have heard his message because its a pretty good one. He is a libertarian. So he feels that certain decisions should be made by the individual instead of the government.

One of his stances is on illegal drugs. he feels that drugs, most notibly marijuana should be legal. I agree with him. if any of you have ever indulged in the plant you know that the short-term & long term effects of marijuana use are minimal. The stongest effect is probably short term memory loss, but that can be remedied with a Ginko-Boloba tablet.

Marijuana has less of a health effect than cigarettes and alcohol. Why is it deemed such a bad plant? Most likely, most people dont consider it that way, but what about those commercials? why do they have to run a little girl over to try and prove a point. I think that if the government could out produce the black market, and implement taxation they would legalize it. Why dont they have commercials for other more hardcore drugs?

Because they are trying to convince us that marijuana somehow does not kill you or even give you cancer (like tobacco), but it makes you so stupid that you run over little kids leaving the drive thru. REDICULOUS!

Also i want to talk about how the cigarette industry is one of the oldest financial supporters of the Southern politicval machine. Now Republican, but in the past Southerners were Democrats. Also if marijuana was legalized, it would devistate the tobacco industry. Does this mean that as long as your greasing the correct pockets you can provide a product that kills only second to heart disease, and at the same time viilify your less dangerous competitor?

Let me give you some facts about marijuana:

-Marijuana is one of the most addicting drugs out there. It can impair your ability to learn, memorize, and solve problems.
-Marijuana, when taken in any dose, can cause short-term memory loss, will cause increased paranoia or anxiousness and intense hunger. It can also cause insomnia as it increases the heart rate and blood pressure.
-Marijuana effects your respiratory health even more than plain cigarettes and your lungs could die out long before they're due.
-Smoking marijuana can make your dizzy and lose your alertness, which is why it is particularly dangerous when driving.

Need I go further? I don't know about you, but I value my brain and would like to keep in full control of it. Marijuana hinders your brain and your control even worse than alcohol, and too much of it in one dose can kill. And there's no medicine to stop that.

Marijuana can't kill you, it's not injected into the blood stream. Saying too much of one dose can kill you is like saying that smoking a cigarette can kill you.

He is right.

There are no recorded cases of death in the United States directly related to marijuana (that I could find).

I know I just wrote a blog that says people should stop buying it, but I just mean they should stop buying it until it is legal. All of the problems chronicled in my recent blog would go away if it were legal.

Then again, as soon as it is legal, it will be mass produced by corporations who will add chemicals to it to make it more addictive and less safe, just like cigarettes, which, in response to Katwitz above, actually ARE the most addictive drug out there. And they are legal.

In the meantime, if you must buy it, everyone buy your weed outside the 'hood please. We're trying hard to raise safe families here.

This is one of the better blogs I have read, argument-wise. Good job.

I agree that some of these drugs ought to be legal. If we allow people to kill themselves with drugs and alcohol, why not marijuana, which causes no traceable deaths directly due to it's use?

However, just remember that while they are illegal, one should not use them or encourage others to use them. The culture perpetuates by illegality is one reason, and the other is the final result of jail. Take care of yourself, and stay safe. But feel free to speak up and back it up with facts.

Marijuana can be dangerous due to the toxins in the smoke. Even though marijuana gives a relaxed, euphoric high, there are underlying problems that it can cause that one may be unaware of. Marijuana can disrupt memory, and cause severe lung damage. It also acts as a mild hallucinogen. If someone is anxious or depressed doing marijuana may amplify those feelings. The use of it may lead to other addictions to, say, cocaine, or heroin (which are more addictive than marijuana) because it changes brain chemistry (which may make one more susceptible to cocaine and heroin addiction.

The National Academy of Sciences (1982, 1999) research reviews have identified other not-so-pleasant marijuana consequences. Like alcohol, marijuana impairs motor-coordination, perceptual skills, and reaction time which are needed to safely operate a car or other machinery.

Many people want to see marijuana legalized, some argue that it can be used as medicine. There are other ways of treating a patient going through chemotherapy, or those that have glaucoma, etc.. The Institute of Medicine recommends delivering THC- the main ingredient of marijuana with a medical inhaler, that would cut out the the toxicity because their not smoking it.

For all these people on here who are saying that marijuania is bad because it is addictive. I would advise you to see that cigarettes are also addictive because of the nicotine. You're bringing nothing to this discussing and only showing your inability to make elementary connections. Also saying that marijuania has toxins so it makes it bad is also a bad statement because cigarettes are the same way. There really is nothing wrong with legalizing it and it surprises me that if it bothers you so much, why don't you ban nicotine too?

And Ron Paul hasn't dropped out yet.

We could ban caffeine while we were at it...

... but then again I'm not a smoker, and caffeine does nothing for me.

Good blog. Think about it this way people are taking up room in jail wasting our tax money because pot is illegal. If police didn't have to address this issue as much except like a DUI then they could focus on the more serious problems like people that are murdering, or stealing. People get lazy when they are high on marijuana so more than likely they will want to stay home. Pot is not addictive it is in the person's mind. People have done it before and never touched it again.

my point exactly.....people can stop after extended periods of use and suffer no after effects.
