Is U.S Jealous of China or What?

First of, there are so many things that I don't like about China. For example, the situation in Tibet in which many Tibetans are being treated like animals by the Chinese government. China never admits anything that has a chance of ruin the country's reputation. However, China is one of the fastest growing country in the world economically. Yet, the United States is trying to stop China from growing.

Well, how do you know if China is growing? There are so many ways of looking at its growth. The simplest one is the use of oil. Today, China is the world second largest user of petroleum products which is right behind the United States. In 2004, China used about 6 million barrels in 2004. By 2005, U.S estimated that China used 14.2 million barrels. The United States uses  20 million barrles per year.

As many of you many know, the cost of crude oil is about 3 dollars per gallon and 70 dollars per barrel. The United States blames China for the rising price of petroleum. First of all, I don't find it fair to blame China. The United States should blame itself for using 20 milliom barrles every year. China just started to increase the useage of oil recently. Why blame them? Second of all, China is growing. This is the country that produces many of the products that are necessary for everybody such as clothing, shoes and etc. Chinese producers are the ones that help us be able to buy things at low price. What is the U.S doing? Nothing. The cost of making product in U.S is more expensive than China. Of course  oil is a vital sources for Chinese to produce goods. Without oil, how is it going to make inexpensive products for us?

With the foreign investments, China is able to expand. Income increases. As a result, more and more Chinese people are able to buy a car. What's wrong with that? China is growing. Let it be. It is a good thing that Chinese government sees that the country needs more resources. The government signs a huge deal with Iran, Sudan, and few other countries in South Asia to produce crude oil. According to NY Times, Chinese government signs a deal with Iran for 70 billion dollars to produce petroleum products for years (it's a long term contract). Basically, Chinese signs contracts to make oil with countries that U.S won't do. So, why is this a big deal? Mr. President, can you tell me? Now the United States is trying to convince Chinese to share resources with U.S. Excues me!!! don't you have Iraq already?

I think U.S is simply jealous of China for its ability to sign contracts to produce oil with countries like Iran, and Sudan. If not, then why on earth would the U.S pressure China to come to the White House? Plus, the U.S government owns huge amount of money to China. It (U.S gov't) doesn't like how China is able to keep cost of making low. Right now, it is pressuring the Chinese government to increase the value of Yuan (Chinese currency). This way, U.S won't have to pay huge amount of debt. China is growing. The United States is basically just consuming goods and barely produce things. We use 20 million barrles of crude oil each year for nothing except for driving, showing off that we have cars or something. Think about it. 11 miles per gallon for a Hummer. We are like the only country that drive cars that aren't oil efficient. While China is producing cheap goods for us and other countries around the world as well. So I don't think it's wrong if China is going to become the world's first largest oil user.

Anybody wanna argue? Feel free.

It's not totally jealousy. The US has a reasonable cause for being alarmed by China's economical ascension.
Do you know what it means if China starts to profit larger than the US? Not only will it mean their businessmen and citizens be living more comfortably. It will also mean they will have more cash to put into their military. If they build a large military that is close to that of the US, they could create alliances with different countries and start World War 3. They could take over the world. This might sound extreme, but it's totally possible. With lots of money, anything is possible. So, I really think it's not just about jealousy. It's a preventative measure to make sure the US does not lose its' number one spot. If the US fails, get ready to learn Chinese. I hope you are good at foreign languages.

The U.S. is not jealous of China is worried about it. If China were to become powerful enough they can reignite the Cold War. They are still communist no matter what they say. They have a free market but when you still force loyalty to a party and destroy "illegal" churches to protect the state there is something wrong.

Didn't China used to make those cheap tinkertoys that you could find in Dollar Generals around America? Yeah, and now they pretty much make everything. I think we have a right to be jealous.

I think it is crazy to think that the US uses so much oil. China is about the same size with like 105 more people per sq. km. China has 1,319,000,000 people. The U.S. has 302,500,000. The nations are about the same size too. What is wrong with them using more oil? Actually, The U.S. should be using less.

Gas costs less here than in the rest of the world.. that's part of the problem for us with our cars. The rest of world most people with money live in nice areas of a city rather than in the suburbs. Since they live in the city they can use city transportation thereby not requiring a car. At least in my experience a lot of the large cities have horrid public transportation. The first city that comes to mind is Columbus which like the 15th largest city in the nation and what kind of transportation do they have? Buses that get you no where in no decent amount of time. And what does the mayor want to build? Trollies. Personally, I think subways are the way to go with Columbus and the way it is set up. Columbus is basically a bunch of cities really close together and as a whole are called "the Great Columbus area". This seems perfect for a subway. I've been to St. Louis, too, and the transportation there is all that bad. The subway will take you just about everywhere you need to go. D.C. isn't all that bad either, from what I can remember--I was 8 at the time. The Boston area seemed to be pretty good too--I didn't actually ride any of it but I looked into it.

Plus people in cities with good transportation tend to either have no cars at all or small ones since they have to parallel park.. it is the people in the suburbs with their gas-guzzling SUV's and their 30 minutes commutes that lead to problems.

Obviously there are benefits in living in a suburb, but they could be made closer to cities so that the city transportation could be made to include them. I think this would decrease our use of gas significantly.

And for that matter... why can't we come-up with a good alternative fuel? I mean we can clone sheep for heaven's sake.. isn't alternative fuel a relatively simple concept in comparison?
