Why is it that so many people seek to ignore the common courtesies and simple rights of anyone under eighteen simply because they are under eighteen? I know many of my generation have faced the stereotype of, "They don't know anything, they are still in high school, not even legal adults, etc." Acts like this have to stop. Just as there are many immature adults who will never grow up, there are kids who were forced to early maturity, and act like adults. Now to explain my particular wrath. A towing company took my car, and we gave them the car as payment, they agreed, and they never sent me a bill for anything. Now, three four months later, I get a notice from a credit bureau stating that if I don't pay $730 before the December 1st, it will go on my credit. I tried explaining the situation, and as soon as the woman found out I was under eighteen (because I hate to lie) she decided I couldn't hear about my own supposed bill, and acted extremely rude, and while before maintaining a vaguely intelligent conversation, began to use smaller words, and had the audacity to speak to me like I was mentally retarded! If they aren't going to find out enough about the incident to realize I was under eighteen, then send me a bill, why is it not possible to tell my why I have to pay that much money? Upon further research, I mostly resolved the problem with the company itself, but discovered many other laws do not protect anyone under eighteen, and make it extremely difficult for anyone to even learn about independence and solving ones own problems. Now, I would suggest trying to make a difference, but I've also learned that many representatives and senators also share the thought that knowledge is based on age. If I leave my age out of the letter, they at least respond, but if any hint of my age is given, I'm ignored. Isn't it time to fix this?
