i used to live in portugal on an air force base, and i got a job as a cashier. however i had to try to learn to speak some portuguese. well because i was the only american working at this one shop, portuguese people would look down at me and talk crap about me right infront of me in portuguese.
i've also had portuguese people come to my counter talk to me and they were ready for check out until they found out that i am american, they grabbed all of their stuff and moved to the next counter.
i basically had a bad day at work everyday. but i just had to learn how to just let it go, smile and move on with my day.
i know am way better than that so i dont need to go the rest of my day with an attitude problem to ruin everyone elses day.
just smile and let it go if this ever happens to you

Never let anyone look down on you because of who you are. Standing proud as you are makes you a better person than those who will judge you, especially for a simple reason as being an American.
Thanks for sharing!
i am proud. thanx for that.

How could they tell you're an American because weren't all of us created equal? Also, it sounds like some of the Portuguese are racist against Americans.
