(URGENT) END OF GOVERNMENT SPYING (FISA) COMING TO AN END!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello world-wide web, I come to you with urgent developements in the way of Congressional action (some would argue inaction) on one of the bills that was signed into law after 9/11 (i.e. FISA) . FISA allowed government authorities to spy on international phone calls and e-mails that passed through the United States.

The FISA bill is to expire on Sunday at midnight if the 110th Congress can not muster the courage to actually extend the law that has enhanced our domestic as well as international security.

The problem is that in Congress currently Bush and his Republican supporters are fighting for the extension of the bill and the Democratic majority if fighting to let the bill expire as they believe it is not necessary in the further enhancement of Bush's homeland security protocols. With the Dems and the Republicans deadlocked in a fierce debate over the merits and lack of merits for the FISA program it is quite evident that the bill will expire.

The people of the United States in an effort to save the safety net that has been brought about by acts such as FISA and other surveillance acts should e-mail or call their US Senator or Representative and voice their support for the FISA Act and its extension, end the bickering of the 110th Congress and lets as the populous try and get something done.

It is important to note that FISA does not allow the executive branch any more power within the checks and balances system. FISA was actually created to limit the possibility of the executive branch overstretching its powers in the way and cause for domestic and international security. The FISA Act requires that the President and the Executive branch get permission from the courts before they seize the transcripts or intercept any phone calls or e-mails. There is no real evidence to suggest that there has been any over-grab of powers by the Executive Branch.

Once again please support the FISA bill and its extension by calling or e-mailing your Senator or Representative to show your support for the bill. After all, the FISA bill has been a strategic element in the cessation of terrorist attacks in the US and on US installations abroad, attributing itself to the halting of approximately 30 possible attacks of epic proportion.

As always I will end with a question: Do you believe that with the death of all of the homeland security bills such as FISA and the Patriot Act we will be opening the door for another 9/11?

Wow I had no idea that it was expiring so soon! Let's hope it gets extended. The only people who should be worried about it are people who have something to hide. Think about it, your personal privacy is still intact. The government has to go through court to get any transcripts of your phone calls or emails. There are checks and balances in place...

You know what? I have a feeling we are going to disagree with everything, but I want to take this opportunity to say that I LOVE your sign off! It's funny!

Ha thank you! I just threw a comment up there without much research so I can't really defend those views so I'm always open to evidence =)

My arguments with your premise aside, may I recommend that you write your headlines in a more professional manner? Not all caps, which looks desperate and inflammatory, or like you accidentally hit caps lock.

Look how nice this is:
URGENT! End of Government Spying. FISA Coming to an End!

Just a suggestion. Thanks.
