Progressive or regressive? That is the question

I'm truly appalled with the chosen blogger of the week. Not only are his thoughts, uninformed, unwarranted, and over valued, but he really shows no potential of any kind for growth. It is sad and disgusting to think that such a narrow minded view could be nominated, chosen, or set as an example, so I ask, is this a truly progressive movement to get us to act as such, or is it a more regressive choice, to show the emerging society of people still in existance today. My heart it somewhat hurt over this individual, who not only merely discredits the politics, beliefs, and hopes of others in this world, but uses name calling and fear mongers in hopes that he will stir up the bee's nest. Well, he has. I for one am not a "cowardly" liberal, I am an independent woman of 20 who is married to an amazing man with a debilitating disease, I have cared for my father, a Vietnam Era Veteran, and democrat, who is dying of diabetes, heart disease, and a variety of other ailments associated with those two diseases. Living and growing up as the working poor I have had to see my mother struggle to get jobs to support her family, pay doctors bills, and try to hire a home care assistant to ensure that my father would make it to my tenth birthday. I personally have rubbed cream into my fathers ever so blacking legs from the knee down, scrapped his infection from his feet, as diabetics often get, and had to endure the pain of watching my husband go into the hospital time and time again because of a disease he cannot control, for it controls him. So I ask you all, as you have dared to hear me "brag" about my accomplishments, to think about his words carefully, and to hold true to yourselves your beliefs, and come up with an answer, are his blogs, that he has been highlighted for, Progressive in today's society? Or are Regressive?

Hmmm... yes I will say that you should be considered a hero to some. Opinions from people like you are often well thought out and are(hopefully =P) meant for the best. On the flip side though, you can only be as progressive as the people who use this site are. If they wanted a narrow minded(I'm not saying he is. That was your opinion...) bigot then... well, that's who they found most progressive. If you want to change people's perspectives as to how they choose the blogger of the week then it's your job to write, blog, comment and get personal with people to try to convince them of your thinking. I think that he succeeded in drawing fans and I think that that's what he got the award for. If you want to change what the award is judged on... well you'll have to convince a lot of people. Well, good luck with that! I'm all for progressive thinking... =)

Hi Anjamaka,
TruTalk was nominated and featured last week. I understand that his views differ from many on the site, but that does not make him ineligible to be featured. I am truly sorry that you are disappointed with our decision. The best advice I can give you, is to nominate your favorite blogger to be featured.
Kristin

But this does not mean I cannot and am not allowed to discuss my feelings on the matter and to bring about discussion, as within the terms of use, it is not hateful, libel or personal, but a matter of opinion.

You are certainly allowed to discuss your feelings on the matter. I was just trying to explain why he was featured.

Thank you so much for being kind and trying to tell me. I was aware, but it was more a Rhetorical question type thing, if that helps. Im sorry if I seem cross, and thank you again!

Just because he disagrees with you doesn't mean that his ideas are regressive. For the record, I disagree with him on a lot of issues and, if memory serves, we've gotten into it a few times, but so what. He writes intelligent blogs. He can defend his position. He's engaging and interesting, regardless as to whether or not you agree with him. And, hey, maybe we're the ones who are wrong. All I know is I know nothing, neh?

Anjamaka,

Perhaps you are unaware that "Progressive" is not synonymous with "Liberal." It is unfortunate that you disagree with said blogger's views, but I find it unnecessary and inappropriate for you to bring your personal life into it. Your opinions and perspective matter, and the way to disagree and "fight back" is to write blogs which argue against his points, not write a sob story about how he is against you (personally) when he, in fact, is not.

You say he "discredits the politics, beliefs, and hopes of others in this world," but aren't you doing the same to him by writing this blog and putting down his accomplishment of being nominated by other users of this site? We must be fair in our assessment of others, and you clearly have not considered his blogs except through your own, biased, eyes. Step back and read them without consideration for your preconceived views, and you may learn something.

Kate

Disclaimer: That is not to say I agree or disagree with everything said Featured Blogger has written. I am simply defending his right to blog and not have his accomplishments torn down disrespectfully and unnecessarily because of the preconceived political beliefs of another.
