Well, it seems that our favorite "Harry Potter is the devil!" fundie is up in arms one more time.

Next installment of mom vs. Potter set for Gwinnett court

Laura Mallory and Harry Potter are to meet in court on Tuesday.

Mallory, whose children attend school in Gwinnett, wants the popular series of books about the fictional boy wizard exorcised from Gwinnett County's public school libraries.

Mallory is scheduled to appear in Gwinnett Superior Court Tuesday morning to argue the "Potter" stories are harmful and promote witchcraft and the occult to young people. Supporters of the "Potter" books say they encourage children to read and should be available to all students.

Since she launched her anti-Potter crusade in 2005, Mallory has taken her case to administrators at the Loganville elementary school her children attend; to a school appeals committee; to the Gwinnett County Board of Education; and to the Georgia Board of Education. She's lost at each level.

Mallory bases her claim, in part, on testimonials and Internet articles by conservative Christian authors that she's posted on her Web site.

Mallory acknowledges she hasn't read any of the six books in the "Harry Potter" series. The seventh — and final one — is scheduled for release this summer.

The one good thing that I can say about this woman is that she sure is dedicated to her cause.  For those of you who are not familiar with this woman, she is a recurring figure on the local stage in my home town of Atlanta.  Her basic argument is that the Harry Potter books teach kids about "real witchcraft" and offers instruction on how to perform spells and worship "Satan."

Of course, she hasn't read the books, and her only exposure to them comes from conservative religious websites, so very few people are taking her claims all that seriously.  But the fact is that because she is a tax-paying citizen, the local school boards have continued to hear her out quite patiently.  But I think that this case has passed the point where patience is a virtue, and this woman is really doing nothing more that wasting taxpayer dollars in her pursuit of this plainly frivolous lawsuit.

Thats probably the only thing. I have read all of these books and love them!! maybe im a dork but who cares its something i ejoyed reading and kept me wanting to read it every time a new one came out. If you dont want your child to read it thats your business but you dont need to ruin it for other kids that would like to read it who maybe cant afford to buy it or go get it else where

Ah, our dear Laura Mallory. You know, she had to change her phone number because so many Potter fans kept calling her. I find that amusing. The fact that she ignores the OTHER Christian commentary about the GOOD of Harry Potter is also amusing.

Percivale, though, please add a little more commentary in the future, instead of having the bulk of your blog being an article you copied from somewhere else. Thank you :-).

Round 5 goes to Harry Potter

Gwinnett Superior Court Judge Ronnie Batchelor on Tuesday rejected a mother's plea to have the Harry Potter books removed from county school libraries.

Laura Mallory of Loganville lost her argument for judicial relief.

She argued her position for about an hour Tuesday before Batchelor made his ruling.

Mallory said she may now file a federal lawsuit.

In and out of court in about an hour. That has to be a record.

You would think that after all those losses, she would just give up. There's no way the Supreme Court (if it manages to get up that far) is going to ban a book from all elementary schools, especially when it has more important things to worry about.

You know those poor kids are getting picked on at school because their mother is a loon who hates a fictional character she's never met.

You know something is wrong with your claim when you keep losing to a book.

I've put this on other Harry Potter posts, but I'm sure this post will eventually be read by thousands of people just by virtue of the fact that it's about Harry Potter, I will post the info here too.

I read a book a couple years ago written by a college professor named Edmund Kern that talks about all the good things that kids learn from the Harry Potter series:

John Granger, I believe, is pretty popular among the Christian readers. He wrote a book called "Finding God in Harry Potter". There's plenty of books that are written in favor of the book, which is why I wonder why Mrs. Mallory only pays attention to one half of the Christian writings on the subject.

All forms of censorship are wrong. This woman needs better hobbies than book burning.
