I have not read the novel yet, but I plan to read it before I watch the movie that is set to release on May 19th. The book has sold nearly 50 million copies and the movie is generating a lot of attention. The film is causing so much controversy it is being compared to Mel Gibson's film The Passion of the Christ. The churches are speaking out against the movie claiming it could damage the church's image. Mel Gibson's film seemed to boost the Catholic Church and his epic betrayal of the final days, while The Da Vinci Code will draw more of those will prejudices with the Catholic Church. I was just wondering people's opinons on the movie, the book, and the controversy.

It's just a movie, a book, and an imaginary controversy.
It is just a movie, and just a book (which i have not read) but the controversy is not imaginary. It is a work of FICTION; however, the fact that i understand that does not stop a variety of religious groups from creating a controversy because they do not like it. In my small hometown in the middle of the bible belt the movie will not be coming to a local theatre because of this "non-existant" controversy. I think it is fiction, meant for entertainment. Not everybody is able to understand or agree with that and that is the source of the controversy.
The book was one of the best books I've ever read, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the film. As far as all of the controversy goes, I agree with CNicole... It's just a book. There is freedom of the press, and I don't think it's right for Dan Brown to get so much grief over his work of FICTION. However, like they say, no publicity is bad publicity, right?
