School computers make me so mad

On the school computers alot of things are blocked. out. i saw a blog that intrested me and i was sure i would leave a comemnt because it was on standerdized testing. The school computer blocked out the blog because the content was inappropriete!! What did it do talk nasty in the blog! Things like that make me so mad. There was even a news article that i could read the other day because it had to many prohibited words in it. It was about the war!!! Omg, I can't stand the school computers.

This has nothing to do with what you posted except that it reminded me of stupid ways people use authority and 'censorship'.
Where I live it's considered 'unsofisticated' to sit on the floor, so if you're at a mall and you're tired from walking around all day but there aren't any benches or seats around, if you sit on the floor, some guy from security (a mall cop or something) will 'ask you' to stand up.
Once, my friends and I were waiting outside for our parents to pick us up and they told us 'loitering' wasn't allowed so we had to go back inside (where our parents wouldn't be able to see us).
It's really small stuff, but it ticks you off.

i agree with you. my school blocks so many sites that aren't even bad. One time, i was looking for a recording of a solo that i was doing for solo ensemble contest, and the only playable site was blocked. and all of the proxies that can get around the sonicwall are blocked. this has been a heated topic among the myspace users at I-high. i think it ridculous how many websites are blocked. ~jessicA~

My school blocks tons of stuff too. I'll be doing research for a European history assignment and the site'll be blocked because of "inappropriate material"; I'd just be looking up art!!

I know i was doing research on pirates for one of my online classes and my adviser had to call so they could unblock the site wehre i was supposed to find the answers to my study guide for my test

School Internet censors (commonly known as censorware) don't work for two reasons.

First, they can't keep up with the fluid nature of the internet. For example, a useful history site could lose its domain and become a porno site. People in charge of maintaining the block lists for these censors can't keep up.

Second, they are full of holes. If you are blocked from a site, all you have to do (at least at my school) is set your computer up as a proxy and access the internet from that. Of course, the censor can't keep up, especially since one can get an internet address that changes. In addition, if someone wants to bring porn in, all they need is a floppy disk or a CD.

The other issue with censorware is how they block content. My school's software blocks content based on descriptions and page titles - NOT on content. A lot of pornography sites have to be manually blocked, and when that happened, kids began to just use google images. Then Google Images was blocked. Now in Web Design, whenever I had to get an image. I had to go through a gateway I set up at my own website to get through. My website has a rather harmless description and title, and the page where it loads the pages in is not linked anywhere. People saw Iwas getting through and I was sure not to tell them, because I knew that they couldn't be trusted with it.

Sadly, though, in school everybody bugs me about it. Still haven't been contacted by the administration, but I'm sure one of them with blabbermouth it too much and I'll be contacted. I personally just used it in web design, and also I did honestly play some games, but never on time that was for working. In business classes (web design is in that category), you work at your own pace, if you beat the deadlines, you can mess around, just ensure you have to get everything done by the deadline.
