What happens after you die?

Recently, I finished reading a book called "For one more day" by Mitch Albom. It is a story of a mother and a son, and a relationship that lasts a lifetime and beyond. It explores the question : What would you do if you could spend one more day with a lost loved one? It is a poignant story, that is truely heart-touching. The book is dedicated by Mr Albom to his mother, who resides in Michigan with his wife.

Another book, "Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebol is a book narrated by a young girl of 12years old who is raped and killed. Narration is given by the young girl, as she looks down on earth- at her family, friends etc. She sees what all is going down, in the earth after her departure, from heaven. The book is being converted into a movie, in which Rachel Weisz will play the lead.

Harry Potter editions, where soul of people who have not been able to cross over, still linger around in the Hogwarts castle, visible to the human eye. Whereas, the others can talk o the humans through their photo frames. ( Albus Dumbeldore in the last Harry Potter).

These are all the different views of people, on what happens to a person after he dies. Some people think that a person is reborn once dead, while few think he goes to heaven/hell. It's such a mysterious concept. And if a person, wants to solve this mystery , he would only be able to get it once he dies, how ironic.

If it were to me to chose my destiny after I die, I would want to be reborn again, with all my memories of previous life intact. It would be so amazing, what if I turn out to be a famous- billionaire during this life, I would be so proud of myself when I would be reborn. Ha!

However the best imaginative answerI have heard is.....
we get to come back and change our choices
so we have a different outcome to our lives.
Your post was very informative.
Thanks.

After we die, we will be dead. And we will remain that way for the foreseeable future. While being dead doesn't require much effort, it doesn't give us the opportunity to experience mcuh either.

Therefore, it is much better to focus one's efforts on what one can do to make one's experience in this world more meaningful.

Ah, a common mindset of atheists. Now, if only more theists would learn from that, perhaps we'd have fewer wars...

The wealth of near death experience research indicates something happens. when we die.

Many people will (and have, on this site) argued with that. Something about chemicals in the brain... I wasn't paying that much attention.
