Is creativity a thing of the past?

I usually don't like to watch tv unless I'm totally bored and last night was one of those times. I was flipping through the channels and I came across VH1 and MTV. Now, I know that MTV doesn't play music anymore (boo!!) but I still thought that it should have SOME reference to music since it is MUSIC television. You can tell it's been awhile since I've watched tv, espeically MTV, because I guess there hasen't been a hint of musical reference on there since the early 2000s except Flavor of Love or Rock of Love... and that's not music, those a freaking reality shows!

As the years go by actual shows that take some brain power and creativity to produce and diminishing one by one and being replaced with reality shows. Why? Is creativity totally gone from our society now? Or maybe it isn't gone... maybe creativity is just a fad, (kind of like that whole 'Go Green' thing everybody's trying to conform to now) and just as soon as it has or will diminish it'll be back again. How hopeful.

Rock of Love isn't creative. The most creative thing I see on there is the little girlies' make up masks. Flavor of Love isn't creative. The Bachelor isn't creative. REALITY SHOWS AREN'T WORTH WATCHING!! Is this what our society has come to? Oh, how lovely.

Go read a book.

p.s. in honor of this I am taking full advantage of the creative writing site, lol :]

When I read your title, I clicked to refer you to the creative writing site. Funny! I'm glad you're using it.

I would like to say that Lost is an extremely creative show. Just sayin. And there are some great shows on pay cable channels, which may become the subject of another blog...thanks for the inspiration!

hrm, Lost is kind of creative. It's a spin off the book Lord of the Flies.

I loved that book. Maybe it would have been even better with some polar bears and electromagnets thrown in!

Good point.

I refuse to watch reality tv. There are a few good shows left over that don't fall into that category, but even a lot of the remaining tv is garbage. If you are as sick of reality tv as I am, then you'll find other things to do such as:

reading
rollerblading
playing an instrument
writing on ProgressiveU
watching DVDs
playing video games
spending time outside
playing card games with grandparents

My goal for the summer is to not turn on the TV during daylight hours. Maybe I'll be avoiding one fad to help another ;-)

Actually, that's a very good idea. I'm going to pledge to do the same :]

Im a PC Gamer and not a reality tv fan either. I much prefer to get on the computer then to watch some stupid show where they are arguing about who is dating who and so forth...pathetic.

I hear ya... I get sick of the same old garbage. To keep me interested, a show has to have really good writing... such as The Office, Scrubs, or Heroes.

Reality TV has gotten out-of-hand... the few good ones that I might consider watching would be shows like Project Runway or Top Chef or something like that. All the shows like Real World are crap and will probably reduce our brain cell counts.

I totally agree that books are the way to go! Exercise our brains!!
