okay everyone...here are some fun facts about recycling that might suprize you:
Each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water!
Paper products make up the largest part (approximately 40 percent) of our trash.
Making recycled paper instead of new paper uses 64 percent less energy and uses 58 percent less water.
One tree can filter up to 60 pounds of pollutants from the air each year.
Every Sunday, Americans waste 90 percent of recyclable newspapers. This wastes 500,000 trees!

I found these facts at http://www.resourcefulschools.org/html/facts.html and have used them before in research and persuasive papers.I also wrote a bill in my government class that got me an excellent grade becase I truly believe in recycling and its benefits and have really looked into it. i hope everyone else will too. My goal is to get people thinking about recycling and how much waste we produce. Last year, I put a box in my dorm room and would toss anything recycleable into it. You'd be suprized at how empty my garbage can was. If there is a facility near by, I recommend you try this out. See how much recycleable product you are wasting. Also, think about what recycling can do for the earth in terms of global warming and filtering harmful pollutants out of the air. Recycling is one of the many steps we can take towards making our living environment more healthy, clean, and beautiful, and also, our earth less hot and cancerous (if you know what I mean ;)) Recycling can lead to better air quality, less use of energy, cleaner water, and conservation of precious, valuable natural resources. Please just take the time to think about recycling and what you can do to help. Try my little experiment if you like! If you do recycle, kudos to you and keep it up!
Also, if you are interested in starting up some sort of recycling program...do it! Make it a part of your volunteer time, or just simply try it out to feel better about yourself and what you're doing to help the earth.

I've read that somewhere, maybe in some sorta positive chain mail.
Where I live, we don't have to worry about going out to a recycling center because a recycling truck comes out to us - which is great.
At first, we had three little bins: plastic, paper, cans. Then the county or city, I don't know who runs it, just gave us a garbage can basically, that is used only for things that can be recycled. So they collect garbage and things to be recycled on the same day.
While I was reading this, it made me think of something that the Japanese do and I think would be a good idea here. Some of the toilets in Japan have little sinks placed over the toilet, that way the water you use to wash your hands is recycled and used as toilet water. How genius is that?!

Recycling is AWESOME! I think that teachers and schools tend to waste paper with unneccesary things. At our school, we set up boxes for paper to be recycled. I think its a good idea because the paper is then taken by a select student to a recycling bin or area.
