Where your presidental votes really go

When you cast a vote on your ballot for a president, are you really voting for the president?  The answer is no.  What you are actually doing is voting for your states electors.  You see we have an electoral college system, for those who don't knwo what that is, its where all the votes of each state are tallied up to see who wins the majority of the state.  Then your states electors vote on the candidate, most every time in our nation's history, they have went with the majority of the state,  but very few times have they went against the majority of a state.  SO when they vote for a presidental candidate, the candidate that then wins with the states electors, gets the states electoral college votes, and you have to have 270 to win.  It's an interesting system, but it does make it extremely difficult for third party candidates to win any election.

So what you are saying is that the LOUDEST VOICED COUNTRY(CLAIMING TO BE A DEMOCRACY) IN THE ENTIRE WORLD,

Is NOT

A DEMOCRACY.

Simple answer,
Ban the electoral college system.

It is suppose to keep the uniformed people of the country from electing a completely psychotic leader…….

I'm not saying that, Im just trying to educate people on that system that everyone should be educated on, I don't have any problem with it.

There are many good things about the electoral college. Each state gets a say in the government. The states get a vote for each senator and representative they have. If the electoral college were abolished, then candidates would have no reason to visit states like Wyoming and Idaho who have a lot less votes than places like California. Especially if the race is close. While most of the states are an all or nothing deal for the electoral votes, Nebraska and Maine are unique. They have a policy where each district in the state votes. For example: if the voters for the Nebraska ballot for the electoral college give 4 votes to the Republicans and 1 vote to the Democrats, then the state is divided that way. One vote goes to the Dems and four votes to the Reps. I know that you don't like the idea of the electoral college and not directly voting for the President but it's better than if we didn't have it. If we had the majority rules method, then Bill Clinton would not have become President in 1992. George Bush Sr. would have been President because he had more of the majority's votes. Plus, Clinton was considered the illegitimate president during his first term because he won the electoral college vote but he only got forty two percent of the popular vote. He didn't even get half of it.
