I know people choose to have abortions, and I know what I say won't change anyone's mind. But today i decided that i was going talk about different arguments agianst abortion that i can think of.
First off The Bible when you think about reading the Bible, can you remember abortion ever being mentioned? I can't either but I think it is because it was so unthinkable that it wouldn't be mentioned as a criminal code. In the Bible children were viewed as a gift from God. Second, the Scriptures state--"and the Jews concurred--that God opens and closes the womb and is sovereign over conception." Third not having children was seen as a curse. While reading the bible you can also read this verse
"If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise." Exodus 21:22-25
This means that the penalty for killing an unborn child is the same as killing a child it also means that it will have the same legal status.
There are also many Medical Arguments for not having Abortions.
One argument is the definiton of life and death. Death is looked at there being no heartbeat, but when you really think about it, once a child is formed in the womb, you will here thier heartbeat by 18 days old. You may say no death is described as when there is no brain waves. Babies have functioning brains at 40 days old. The unborn child also feels pain as early as 8 weeks old. The fetus also has a genetic patterns different from the mother and a set a fingerprints all to its self.

I put my link up there so you would see where i got the information and could see i didn't copy and paste since so many of you like to accuse me of that.
When you go in for an aborition you see your baby on a fetal moniter your hear its heartbeat and yet through all of this you are still able to go through with this even though you know that you have a living life in side of you.
Some people say that it is ok to have an abortion when you have been raped. I would be upset if i was raped, but how could you kill an inocent baby because of someone else's mistakes. Some people also say that they should have an abortion becase they are in an abusive realtionship. One if you are in that type of relationship you need to get out, a baby is the perfect oppurtunity to leave. If you are hungary and can't raise a baby for money, you could always get governtment help in making things better for the baby. Maybe you are still in school and can't take care of it now. The government helps with daycare and with the babies milk. There is no reason why someone can't take care of a baby. If they can't because they arent responsible enough there is always adoption, give the gift of life to someone who reallly wants a baby and can't have one .
Another reason I am agianst abortions is because of the long term effect on the woman. There are physical effects on the woman. If it is preformed wrong she may die or not have children later on in life when she may choose too. There are also mental and emotinal effects such as living with the fact that she has killed a part of her or killed her child. It isn't healthy for mother or child.

I have known many women who have been in the position of getting pregnant with risks of hurting or dieing themselves in child birth, or I also know of a few women who were raped, but still none of these women to my rememberance had an abortion. One of my friends did die in child birth, but her baby survived and is now living with someone who loves her just as if she was her own. These women that I speak of that were raped still had their babies and still love and protect them; they never would have thought about taking their child's life just because some jerk of a guy decided to rape them. No, I don't feel that there are even explainable circumstances, I believe 100% that abortion is morally and physically wrong. Young teenage girls make mistakes but they should have to deal with the consequences, remember there are other options besides "murder."
That's just it - abortion is a consequence. And it comes with a slew of other consequences. So by this statement, the teenage mother-to-be who made a mistake is taking responsibility afterwards and is accepting a consequence... apparently just not the consequence you would prefer to shove down her throat.
And yes, there are other options... it's so great that you know that. Abortion is just one option. Obviously, it's not right for everyone, and it's not a choice everyone would make. I don't think I could choose to have an abortion.
But I'm not so arrogant as to say that no one else should make my choice.

First off, I have to give kudos to this blogger for starting such a thread. I do admire and respect your stance wholeheartedly, although I am not on the pro-life position.
Now, after reading line after line of comments and responses in agreeance or disagreeance to the pro-life position, I do have a few issues with the way this has been dragged around.
First off, it seems like there has not been a consensus made regarding what "abortion" is. Some people are referring to "partial-birth abortions" and some are refering to abortions made within the first term. Although it is hard to define the term "abortion", it is essential to a discussion on abortion.
Also, there's been tons of people here stating that abortion is "right" or "wrong". First off, the idea of right or wrong is a philosophy based on the person's beliefs. What is wrong to one can be right to another. Furthermore, right and wrong is dependent on the context and situation when it was used.
Now, to my stance on this hot topic issue. I am a firm believer of the pro-choice stance. After much research into this topic throughout my years of debating legislation regarding abortion, I have come to the conclusion that the people of America should be left with the decision of abortion.
I do agree with the people that state that the child is not just the woman's body, but it is a separate human entity that is entitled to its own rights. However, we live in a society where we believe that mother and father know best for their child. I think that in abortion, the decision should be made not by the government, but by the parents of the child. For example, if the parents were drug addicts, there is a high likeliness that the child will come out with major birth defects that will impair the child for the rest of their life. Now, is it the job of the government to force the child to be born into the world with a disability that will hinder their quality of life and force them to suffer for the rest of their own life?
We cannot be naive on this issue. The government is not a one size fit all type of system. It does not always provide the best for people. I firmly believe that the parents will know what is best for their own child, not I, nor you, or anybody else for that matter.
Furthermore, if the government were to pass such a piece of legislation, there would be much more of a negative impact than a positive impact on the quality of life for children. If abortions became illegal, just imagine the possible consequences, for example: child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness, overburdening of the social systems (medical, medicare, food stamps, etc.), and increased crime.
In America, we were formed on the notion that people had the choice and freedom to choose for themselves, that nobody had the rights to take those freedoms away from them. Although I definitely agree that abortions may not be right for everybody and not everybody should have an abortion, I believe that the choice should be in the hands of people.
Just because abortion is legal does not mean that it is right or wrong, it just provides an alternative choice. Legal abortion equals choice, which is what people want to have -- choices.
Right or wrong, that's up for you to decide.
As I read your blog and the many comments that followed-good for you! Not for what you believe in but for standing for something and not being so hateful when you justify yourself. I am truely taken back by the 29 year old lady who is super mad at you because she has a condition that makes it hard for her to carry a child. Again- good for you for not throwing punches at people!!

Your post is completely unconvincing because you start off with the bible as a reason. Not everyone believes the bible should be followed or is true. Also, it is your opinion that abortion is "so unthinkable that it wouldn't be mentioned as a criminal code." So that doesnt support your side either.
There are also people who think the bible is correct. Like me for instance, I go to a christian school and I am doing well here and I enjoy it. I hear Gods word every day and I think (very strongly) that abortion is wrong. Its cruel and its not fair to the child that could have been. What if the child you killed would have been the one to find the cure for cancer? What then? What if that was the case and you got cancer? You never know what a child is going to be capeable of. Its cruel, wrong, and something that should be against the law. People who do it are a disgrace. So what if the child is a rape baby? Its not its fault, so why kill it? I tend to think that people who have abortions are cold hearted murders. People who have, or in your case agree, with abortion is no better than the madman out prowling the street. You are no better than any rapest in the world, and if you think you are you have problems.
Andrea
Do not forget the fact that there are always exceptions to every rule. So are those of the Catholic Church's. There are times when we either have to save the life of the mother or that of the baby's. In this case, depending on the choice of the family, abortion can be done. It is called principle of choosing the less evil.
Can you imagine if the Catholic Church says that abortion is legal? I assure you there might be no more kids in this planet.
Another reason is that people always misuse freedom. This makes it very difficult to say things in a certain way. However, whatever is done, the intention must be pure.
I just can not understand why some mothers are so selfish as to end the lives of the helpless and innocent babies. It is the very act of the coward to attack the defendless. They were born human but they choose to be less human by their own decisions. Nothing is more inhuman than killing the helpless.
Exactly if I ever got pregnant, even unespectadly or was raped, I still couldn't kill a child. I mean I may hate that person who raped me, but I love my self and that child is a part of me
Well normal people think rape is very tragic and would relive the horror everytime they look at its product.
"Normal people"?! That was a rediculously small thing to say.
If I became pregnant because of rape, I think I would probably GROW UP and deal with the situation like a RESPONSIBLE adult.
Normal people would remember the rape whether they got an abortion or not. Getting the abortion brings back more worse enemies. Instead of thinking about the rape when they look at their child, now they have to think about the rape AND abortion every time they see ANY child. And adoption is an option, so the mother wouldn't have to constantly see the baby.
I believe we are all missing the point! The issue of legal abortions is one that is being decided for the United States of America, a two-century long democratic nation built around democratic social principles. Of course, the Founding Fathers original intent in the Constitution cannot be perfectly, 100% clearly understood. No one living was around when they were on the earth. However, since we live in a democracy, we need to make the laws by the defivitive meaning of democracy. This means free-choice, even to the point of the social contract, and protected unalienable rights. We aren't living in a Judaistic theocracy like back in Maccabee's and Jesus's time, you red-state, "Bible-belt" conservatives! So quit it with the "God sayeth ... blah, blah, blah", cuz you know America doesn't do everything according to God's standards and in his Holy will. So let people decide if they want an abortion or not; It may not be right; it may be murder in God's eyes; their soul may burn in Hell (Sheol) for all eternity, but by golly, it will be the democratic way!
P.S. I'm pro-choice, by the way.
-Oz
First of all, I'm from Connecticut; not the "Bible-belt." Yes we're a democracy, but does a democratic nation allow for murder? No. Should they protect the rights of the innocent and defenseless? Yes. This is a matter of legalized murder. Even if you don't think the word "murder" is accurate, the fact is that the doctors and mother are killing a living being, and I don't think that the law should allow for that.
Let no man destroy what God has made and put together beautifully and wonderfully. Only a person of faith will understand my sentence, though.
I agree. Every person is unique and perfect since they area all God's creation. We have no right to end the life of one of His creations.
I agree with you. I am a pro-lifer and I cannot justify abortion under any circumstances.
explain if someone got rape.
I wouldn't want to carry a rapist's baby.
How about you?
I wouldn't want to, but I would. Its not the babies fault that his dad was a rapist. You could always opt for an adoption
I'd also like to state that women have died trying to give birth.
People have also died trying to install light bulbs, but does that mean we shouldn't do it?
I guess we should live in darkness for the rest of eternity...kind of like you.
Please don't quote the Bible because if you eat beef and drink milk at the same time, then you are already going against one of the acts of heresy as stated in Leviticus.
Secondly, are we living in the 1st century here? Maybe you are, but I am living in the 21st century. Women who do not have babies are not shunned in today's society.
Third, we are living in a world of overpopulation now. Yes, you are right that giving and receiving life is a gift. However giving life means being responsible enough to make the hard decisions. That means most importantly not having sex or using protection. It also means knowing that you will be able to bring into the world a healthy, well parented child. And if you cannot live up to that second standard, abortion is a responsible action.
Okay. First, some people do NOT give a damn what the Bible says. Get over it. Second, abortion may actually save a mother's life. I don't know the details, but it's true. And hey, also consider the economic factor.
well i guess you that don't give a damn about the Bible can over look that and look in to other reasons on why not to get an abortion. You are so stubbern you think you are right on every thing! You don't even give someone else a chance to explain themselves. I see if it can help a the mother live and she was on birth control if there wasn't anything else she could do. But then agian if thats the case get your tubes tied.
Oh, I do give people a chance to explain themselves, but they occasionally abuse the privilege and use some Bible verses instead of their own words. Sorry, I'm Catholic, but I do not accept "because the Bible says so" as a valid argument.
Abortion is murder no matter what the situation is. If you have a life-threatening condition and can't give birth, use birth control and make sure u don't get pregnant. If you are pregnant, give it up for adoption. My birth mother was pregnant when she was 17 and gave me up for adoption. A baby is a human being, and there's no difference in killing a fetus than killing a 5 year old child. I'm glad that someone actually wrote a blog about being pro-life. I get really tired of defending what is very obviously the truth about abortion all the time. Thanks for sticking up for us.
First, it is not very obviously the truth. If it were, there would be no debate about it, it would not be controversial, and in the very least, women would be able to stick together on it.
Second, not all life threatening conditions that might prevent carrying to term or being able to deliver even appear until after a woman is already pregnant.
While my sister-in-law was one month into her sixth pregnancy, she was diagnosed with cancer, and was left with a choice - she could abort the baby and begin undergoing chemo, or she could forego chemo, give birth, and die less than a year later. She got three opinions by doctors in two different states, and all gave her the same diagnosis.
I have three nephews and two neices, the oldest of which has just celebrated his 10th birthday, who would be without a mother today if she had not had the right to make her choice.
Should abortion be used as a form of birth control for people? No. Should it be a lazy escape from people who decide later that it was a mistake? No. Should it be a legal alternative to certain situations? YES.

ok i see where you are coming from. I dont' know what i would do in that situation, but i understand why she made her choice.
Thank you, Crystal.
I understand that not everyone knows about every situation. This is what makes the debate so controversial. I don't know if I could ever have an abortion, but the reason I don't know is because I've never been faced with that choice.
And I've met those 14-15 year olds who have abortions like every few months as a form of birth control. That's appalling to me. I don't think the technology should be wasted like that; but unfortunately, to keep it safe for those mothers who truly need it there, we have to tolerate the people who will take advantage of it.

Really my problem is with the people who say yeah we were using condoms but it broke so i'm getting an abortion. or the I forgot my pills so i am going to get rid of the baby people. They know when having sex that it is possible to have a baby, and if you are going to spread your legs, be prepared for the concequences. If your raped i know why you would want one but then agian think of how many people are waiting in lines to adopt a baby. I don' t like when people do the partial birth abortions either but as far as them being sick, if its going to kill you I guess it may be ok, but then you need to take care of that problem so you won't have to abort agian.
I'm pro-life also and am glad you wrote this. I don't think enough emphasis is placed on the side effects the mother can receive from having an abortion. Women have died of internal bleeding, infertility issues (like you mentioned), breast cancer has also been linked to abortions which you rarely hear of but I think major emphasis should be placed on. Also, many times a doctor may recommend an abortion for health of the mother but there aren't a lot of cases where that is actually true. I know there are definitely some but I have also heard of women where the doctors told them that but they went full term with the baby and the mothers were not injured in anyway.
First off, I am pro-choice and I have had two abortions in my lifetime. I have never heard of a woman listening to the baby’s heartbeat before having an abortion and you don't even have to look at the ultrasound if you choose not to which, in most states, if you are under 18 they are required to ask. In Texas, where I had my first abortion, I was under 18 and it was state law that you had to be on an IV, asleep, for the operation. You also sleep for an hour or so after they take you to the recovery room as well.
After having an abortion while fully awake, I understand the reasoning behind it.
At most clinics today you will have to sit down with a counselor before your abortion to talk about why you are choosing to have it. You have plenty of opportunities to back out and some clinics will refuse to perform the operation if they feel you haven't thought it out enough.
Most abortions are not carried out past 20 weeks, although it is legal. And if you are under 6 weeks pregnant you can have a medically induced miscarriage pretty much, an abortion via medication.
There are plenty of valid reasons a woman may choose to have an abortion for and every single one of them is fine by me if she has really given it thought and listened to both her mind and her heart. It's her body, not yours, not mine, not the governments, not societies, and not "god's". It's hers to govern as she sees fit.
Make it illegal and all you'll have it a return to the past when women died or got severely hurt by sickos who wanna play doctor and make a quick buck.
<>Trudges off to blog about the subject<>
How could you be so irresponsible to actually have 2 abortions? Didn't you learn a lesson after the first one? Don't you have any guilt at all and ever wonder what could have been? You children could have been the next scientific genius for all you know. But you just ended their lives.
Finances are a good reason for an abortion? What about just knowing that the baby will have a disease? What about pure irresponsibility..she didn't wear a condom, got pregnant, and now doesn't want to deal with the consequences.
It's not just her body. There's a baby inside of it, too. There are 2 living beings that need to be considered and given rights.
I am pro choice too. Just wanted to say kudos on the great comment :)
I want to add one more thing to anyone who wants to read this. I use to didn't care about whether you did or didn't do it. Then my best friend said she was going to get one. We talked about her options and she said it would be the best for her. When she got home from having the abortion I went to go see how she was doing. On a Friday at 16 we should have been riding around not talking about (in her words) murdering her baby. She cried for so long. She was futher along than whay she had thought and she saw her baby on the ultrasound machine. She listened to her baby's heartbeat until it stopped when she said she knew it was over. She talked about how much it her physically and emotioanlly and she was put on anti depression pills. She said she wanted to walk out because she knew it was wrong but had already began dilating when she wanted to walk out she had no choice. Another of our friends carried her baby to term we went to the hospital to see it. When she saw it and held it for the first time she cried she looked at me and asked me what she had done. Neither of us have any justifacation about it but i know because of what a friend went thourough I could never have an abortion. And i know she couldn't have one either. Thats why I try to do the abortion post because i want to be there for anyone else when they need it because you don't understand how hard it is to watch your best friend suffer because of it. and when a child that would be about 2 walks and smiles at us you can still see the tears in her eyes. She said it was the hardest thing she ever had to do and i don't want anyone else to ever have to go through all the pain she went through.
Abortion should only be allowed in three conditions: If the baby has a high risk of dying during childbirth, If the birth could harm or kill the mother, or it the mother was raped. I'll agree that if a woman made a choice to have sex, she is setting herself up for pregnancy and shouldn't abort on the basis of inconveniance.
There must be exceptions however, as a dangerous childbirth is cruelty at its highest.
You have a very good point on that and i guess its not fair to hurt one to save another. So i agree with you on everything but on the rape thing.
I have to admit, it takes a lot of courage to put up anything even this remotely controversial. The passionate replies have been frustrating, and yet inspiring at the same time, but what I admire in particular about your methodology in argumentation is that you sit back and offer your advice without shoving it down other people's throats.
I'm pro-life, and no I wasn't swayed, but it is wonderful to have someone who can actually -discuss- controversy, rather than -debate- it.
Thank you, but the reason i can listen is one of my friends had an abortion, and i know what she said about getting it done. I also listen and sometimes i get persaded. but i try to listen to what everyone has to say and add only when i think appropirete. I spelled some words wrong, sorry for that.
I just want to let you know that you are very brave for taking a stand on being Pro Life...I am writing a paper on Abortion and what you have written has helped me greatly to write my paper and have a better understanding of this topic.
I am shocked that people would murder a baby. People talk about their "life being over". What do you mean? Death, like having your limbs torn off like the aborted "fetus"? Or do you mean your social life? How shallow can someone be.
And enough of the stupid talk about coat hangers. I'm crying on my keyboard here at the thought of a woman being "coat hangered". I could actually have some pity, if a woman was kidnapped and tied down and "coat hangered", but if someone is stupid enough or selfish enough to choose (and pay??) to be "coat hangered" and they die, am I to cry over it? Shouldn't I cry over the baby who was in there who did not CHOOSE a murderous death? I've heard someone say that 5000 women would die a year over botched abortions if abortion were illegal. That's a death that THEY choose. And how can you compare that to over a million babies a year?
People also talk about when a baby is alive and when its brain works, etc. My guess is that none of you know anything about the matter. My guess is that doctors and scientists don't know anything. Let them create an insect in their lab from dirt. Let them create a single cell from molecules. They can't even do that, but they can tell me when human life begins and when it feels pain? HAHA!! Arrogant and foolish pride!
Morality is defined by God. If you don't like the Bible, then you have no morals. Morals are cut and dry. Black and white. Truth. If morals are up to popular opinion or vote, then they will change every year. For two hundred years in America, abortion was murder in every state. 9 judges talk a bit, and now it's just a "procedure". Flexible morality that matches the social movements and the TV generation! Killing millions of Jews was perfectly legal in Germany a few decades ago. Was that moral? Everyone thought so! And that's what's going on now. The Bible describes these times and the wickedness therein. It has plenty to say about those who call good evil and call evil good. People will be judged for their deeds with eternal consequences. Weigh that against your social life!
First I would like the comment that if you are going to post matieral like this you might want to out into word, and spell check it along with grammar check.
Now to the issue. Something I found interesting is that you didn't argue why the other side was wrong. You have to prove why you are right, not just by telling us that you think abortion is wrong. Using examples is good, but you have show how having an abortion is so wrong that legislation should be passed. Also your quote freom the bible
ut if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
That leaves the whole world dead! You have to understand that in bible days scince was a baby. We now know hwat happens and such and if God looks over sex then why do peple get raped? ITs good that you have an idea but you need to beef it up and explain your example and not just list them.
(ANY SPELLING AND OR GRAMMER MISTAKES ARE INTENTIOAL)
I may make myself look stupid because I did not use correct grammer, spelling and punctuation. However mine were mistakes, you make yourself look so much worse when you do stuff like this on purpose.
First of all, rape is not someone's mistake. It is a brutal, cruel, and animalistic action that a person chooses to do. There is no mistake involved. The scripture you quote refers to the injuries of the mother. The baby's brain waves do not begin until the third month of gestation (pregnancy), since a person is considered legally dead when brain waves stop, this would make a person legally alive. Almost all abortions are done long before this point. Most of the time, the baby is still just a conglomerate of cells. I am pro-choice, but I consider children a blessing, and would not have an abortion unless absolutely necessary. The notion of getting an abortion turns my stomach, but the notion of some poor desperate woman being coat-hangered in a back alley turns my stomach far more. I think there should be a psychological evaluation before the abortion will be performed, and I think that it has risks, just like any other medical procedure. Above all, I think it should remain legal just for the sake of safety.
Mistake (noun)- an incorrect, unwise, or unfortunate act or decision caused by bad judgment or a lack of information or care
I'm pretty sure that rape is someone's mistake.
I agree wholeheartedly... abortion is wrong. Midnightuser, why should a woman kill a baby to make her life "better." Even if she is raped, the innocent baby has done nothing at all to deserve death. The woman should do her part to give the gift of life. Be glad that your parents were pro-life, because even little shits like you deserve to be alive.
Because you are taking another life.
Gina
I am pro-life. It's something I'm most passionate about. I have very few opinions and this is one thing I feel strongly about. I'm very glad you used The Bible in defense of your position. I am a born-again Christian and base my life around my "religion". I believe the Bible is a very structural basis for this agruement and I like the different view point you brought up.
It's very hard to explain to a non-believer your morals and values.
I would encourage to continue to fight for what you believe in. We live in a perverse world and a world where right and wrong are twisted so we can get our way.
I'll be praying for you, dear.
abortion the wrong thing too doo just put the babby up f for adoption!!!!
wat would jesus do???
Jesus was a man, he didn't have to worry about having an abortion.
That oh so tired saying..."WWJD?!" Look, Jesus got nailed to a cross, I don't think following what he does is a good choice. =)
