www.SustainLane.com released its list of the ten US cities that would be least affected if the price of oil skyrocketed.
The top ten best prepared cities are, in order:
1. New York, NY
2. Boston, MA
3. San Francisco, CA
4. Chicago, IL
5. Philadelphia, PA
6. Portland, OR
7. Honolulu, HI
8. Seattle, WA
9. Baltimore, MD
10.Oakland, CA
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is the worst place to live in such an oil crisis. The idea behind the list is public transportaion. Cities with large transportation infrastructures available will be able to get people to work, play or where ever else they need to go. In addition, these cities have the most available locally grown groceries to supply to the area when fuel costs begin to drive up the price of produce (again).
SustainLane’s ranking criteria focused on oil and gasoline as an energy source needed for mobility, rather than energy needed for heating (primarily from natural gas or coal). Heaviest weighting went to commute-to-work data, regional public transportation ridership, and urban sprawl data. Reduced weighting was placed on freeway/street congestion, the availability of local food and wireless network availability. Data, from 2002-2005, was collected from U.S. Bureau of the Census, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Smart Growth America, Intel Corp., Texas Mobility Study/Texas A&M, and through primary research with U.S. cities.

How can there be an oil crisis if we have a pretty good supply of it here in the U.S. I don't think we should ever become completely dependant on other countries.
There will be an oil crisis because liberals won't let us dig oil wells in the vast, uninhabited, and completely worthless tundra in Alaska.

Yay! I'm going to NY in August for college .. now I feel a bit better! It certainly beats Metro Detroit.
What!! New York!!??? I live in NY. I don't think New Yorkers prepared for oil crisis...period even if the web site said that it is.
but don't you all have alot of public transit? I live in St. Louis and we have the metro.. but it doesn't go everywhere. It's really only good to go downtown. I thought NY had a pretty extensive subway system?
