What do you think about...

So, I'm in the process of writing a ... book... I suppose. Maybe story is more fitting. However, I'm curious. I know that in this day and age with people downloading e-books and everyone being too busy to sit down and enjoy a good book. I wonder if it would be worth it. I mean, it's a lot of work that goes into writing a book or story of any kind. And currently, I've hit a wall with ideas. Darn writer's block! I guess my question for you all would be simply this:
What makes a book/novel worth your time to read? What kinds of things do you like (or don't like) to see in books?

I like action. some kind of heavy and complicated plot, or romance. if it is complex and mind boggling, ill read it, but somthing always had to be happening.

I agree completely. it seems like a lot of books out now has a lot of descriptions about every little detail. (That drives me nuts!) lol

You think that books today are over descriptive. Try reading H.P. Lovecraft.

I don't understand, are you asking if it's still possible to make money? If you are, then no, it's not worth it. Literature is an art, and in any art, your main goal should be to express yourself, and maybe to say something to the world that really needs to be said. If you do that, it will probably show, and you will be rewarded. If you're not in it for those reasons, it will never be worth it.

So, basically, I appreciate books that have new ideas in them and something interesting to say, regardless of the genre or style... and I would hope that many would agree with me.

i would like to add that to my opinion too. new ideas are important too, because no one likes hearing the same stuff over and over.

I was just wondering what you all thought were important qualities books should have in order to keep you interested in reading them in the first place. =)

I wouldn't try to write an online book myself. I am not a great writer and am more of a math/science kind of person. So I would have great difficulty completing such a feat. And, the risk outweighs the potential reward in my mind.

If you do decide, and want to get an idea of what people like I like anything really: something meaningful (The Purpose Life Driven), can be applied to life (Survival techniques in different terrain), that can take one away from life for a little bit (Harry Potter, a work of fiction, fantasy). Well those are the main ones for me. I hope it helps!

i love meaningful books about todays problems added to fiction and sometimes a nonfiction is good too.
