I was just discussing today with my friends the idea of forcing someone to do something. My arguement was that, outside of physical forcing, there is no forcing someone to do something. You can coerce them by giving them options that are not pretty but you cannot force them to choose one or the other. Let's say(this has happened before of course...) that a band of gunmen had some hostages. They give one a gun and tell him/her to kill one of the other hostages or they will kill him/her. Well, those aren't pretty options, but, the person still has a choice. Personally, I would rather die than kill one of my friends but that's just me. The fact is that we all live in anarchy. We just choose to follow rules that other people make in order to get along well with the rest of the population. It's all a choice. Anyways, I wrote a poem about how people rule themselves and are free(outside of physical force...) to make their own choices...
I’m the citizen of my own nation,
I’m the president, the ambassador, and the population,
I hold the power, I call the shots,
I take the risk when casting lots,
I’m the foot soldier, and the general too,
I hold the rifle, as I crush the coup,
I’m the fighting rebel, who holds his ground,
Like a tiny pebble, against the Puget Sound,
I’m the judge, I’m the court,
I’m the executioner, in his cruel sport,
I balance the budget, I keep the books,
I make the taxes, I’m the band of crooks,
I’m the foreign policy, I represent my country’s ideals,
I’m the congress, when I listen to the people’s appeals,
I make the laws, and deliver them in a proclamation,
I choose to obey them or to break them,
Because,
I’m the citizen of my own nation…
