Maybe these horrific fires are a warning from God or whatever greater power you believe in or don't believe in, telling us that if we are trashing our own planet, then he will trash our planet as well. We have been polluting the air with our gas waste and now karma is biting us here in San Diego in the butt by all of the smoke and ash floating around in the air. Even some of the hospitals are being evacuated because of the fires taht are so close and all of the smoke that is hanging over the county. Even miles away we had to close all the windows because of the heavy smell of smoke that is filling the air and clogging our lungs.
Is this a warning? Is someone telling us that we need to take care of each other and take care of our planet or else the planet will be punished with fires like these. It is really a tragic experience with all of these houses burning, people being forced out of their homes. It is like the cedar fires from 2003 that sent the whole area into turmoil and took 2 years to rebuild.

Forest fires occur all the time. Even in places that aren't as "highly polluted" as you are saying San Diego is. I seriously doubt that this is a sign from God ro some higher power that we should start taking care of the planet. If it is, then maybe we should have started listening thousands of years ago.
I don't know that I blame the fires on anything more than over-restrictive policies by the liberal state government, keeping people from clearing out the underbrush that, during dry spells like this, turns violently flammable.
Besides, fire isn't 'trashing' anything... it is a natural process. In fact, there are some trees that produce seeds covered in a thick wax. Without a fire to melt that wax coating, the seeds can't germinate.
People encorach on forest areas, aren't able to clear out all the underbrush, and then are suprised when fires ravage the countryside and residential areas.
The fire is actually a cleansing process. After hundreds of years, forests tend to become congested and disease-ridden. The fire clears everything out and lets it start over. Fire also keeps grasslands grazible, keeps animal populations stable, and like lancekates said, provides room for new life.
It's just the planet on it's natural cycle... a good thing.

"Smart" is definitely a relative term. I know a great many intellegent people who do a great many unintelligent things.
No, California is in a biome that has to burn to survive. It's just a natural stage.
"Our politics are our deepest forms of expression, they mirror our past experiences and reflect our dreams and aspirations for the future."
Also, I think that fires can serve as a warning from God that he gave us life and that he can always take it away. Therefore, I think that natural disasters (like hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.) serve as that same warning I mentioned.

It's called a hot day with dry land. Fires are easy to start when there's dry brush and high winds. Besides, there is no God.

Well, if you said so, then it must be true!

"There can be no Devil if there is no God. If there were a god, he would never allow such suffering."
I forget who actually says that, but I'm pretty sure it's from a movie.

Oh and these were caused by arson.
"Our politics are our deepest forms of expression, they mirror our past experiences and reflect our dreams and aspirations for the future."
That what I was thinking. Especially when they said that there were over 7 separate fires.
