For the life of me, I can't figure out why all of the major news sites, even the ones that are supposedly hard-line political, are covering the story of Britney Spears and her baby (For your edification: link to Fox News's version of the story). It goes like this: a nanny was tending to Britney's baby in their home when a problem with the high chair caused the baby to fall and hit its head. The baby was seen by a doctor, and was then examined in an emergency room. Some child services people showed up, and, according to Britney's lawyer, decided that nothing was amiss. End of story.
Wasn't that fascinating?!?! Don't you think that it should have occupied a news slot that could have been dedicated to any number of relevant stories that don't involve a routine process that has occurred numerous times across the country in far more dire circumstances (albiet ones not involving a celebrity)? </sarcasm>.
When a celebrity has a child, it is not news. When a celebrity child goes to the doctor, it is not news. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why people focus on the day-to-day activities of celebrities as if their actions somehow have more value than those of a single mom living in a studio appartment. Or those of a family of five living in the Midwest and recovering from a tornado. Just because someone has money or has performed in the public eye (a valuable service, mind you, but no more valuable than any number of other jobs) doesn't mean that their actions are special. There are instances (such as the Tom Cruise interview) when I think that celebrities should be in the public eye outside of their role as entertainers, but the value in these appearances isn't inherently connected to their celebrity status.

However since it is a celeberity if they go to the dentist or out to eat and they are spotted it will be a part of the news because of who they are.
I find it odd that everything has to be known about a celeberity and thier children, however when there are real child abusers out there that they seem to be overlooking, where is everyone's priority?

exactly. The child abusers know where the celebs are, but we don't even know who the child abusers are. That's why the all have body guards.

I agree! The 10 o'clock news should cover something going on in the WORLD, not five or six states over where a baby is seen by a doctor because he hit his head. There are babies all over the country hitting their heads and yet, they're not making headlines.

Exactly. So many times a natural disaster or murder is giving as a side comment on the news and britney spears gets 15 minutes of attention.

I agree, this is not news. The only reason this is news is the agenda the media has with Britney. She's not in the public eye anymore because she wants a private life. The media doesn't get their slice of daily controversy from Britney so they invade her private life and try to make that look controversial.
I'm not a big fan of Britney but I feel for her. Her every move seems to be monitored and scrutinized just to get a headline. I don’t see why the media is trying to break her down like this. She seems like the only celebrity that’s trying to lead a half normal life.

She is not living her life. She is wasting it. And they are trying to break her down because she is EXPIRED! She doesn't know when to bow out gracefully. If she left popularity scene like backstreet boys and spice girls of her time, she would have dignity left. But she is in it too long, and they see that she is not popular anymore. She is a hasbeen, never should be.

we like to look at the fallacies of those we idol so much. then we can think hmm, not so perfect and examine our own lives.
Oh, it's just that we are very bored people who don't know any better. Celebrities gossips are occasionally fun, but I still don't know why Martha Stewart went to jail or what was with Rosie O'Donell (or however you spell her name) a couple years ago. Darn, I really should catch up with my mandatory readings.
