Hispanic Protest

This is from a  Hispanic who lives in
Texas.  He's had a column in the
Fort  Worth Star Telegram  and as you can see, expresses himself very  well.

ASLEEP  AT THE WHEEL

I can almost assure you that everyone who is a true American was sickened when you saw multitudes of protesters carrying Mexican flags protesting the new Immigration Reform Bill in the Senate. This display of Mexican flags should give you a heads up on where these protesters allegiance lies.  Their hearts are in Mexico and their bellies are in the
United  States.

As an American of Mexican Heritage I want to set the record straight.  American Hispanics are not all thrilled with illegal  immigration.  I, for more than 20 years, tried desperately to bring this national debacle to the attention of the American  people.  I had the privilege of writing for several newspapers,  appeared on national and local TV and radio programs, and was asked by many political groups to address this serious problem affecting my former community (north
Fort  Worth),  city, state, and our country.  Many will question how I can speak on this subject with some authority.  My simple answer is: I lived with the problem!  Trust me, it was no picnic.   Never in my life (I'm 68) had I witnessed the lawlessness, the  deterioration of my community, and the black market criminal underground activities attributed to the influx of illegal  immigrants.

To add injury to insult,  politicians soon caved in to the many demands of illegal immigrants.  Notably: bilingual education, bilingual ballots, welfare aid, free medical care, etc. Through all this national disgrace allowed by our  politicians, have you all noticed that no one ever blames the useless,  corrupt, and disgraceful government of
Mexico? In contrast, they lambaste and criticize our country.  How  does that grab you?

When I addressed the  dangers of our porous border between Mexico and the
United  States, and the lax security of our nation, no one paid attention. As I observed the situation, the problem was perceived to be between American Hispanic communities and illegal immigrants. White Americans, it seemed, assumed that the problem was not theirs to deal with.   In other words they were asleep at the wheel.  However, 9-11 soon woke them up. Lets be honest with each other here, white Americans vote in far larger numbers than Hispanics do. And most politicians (Democrats and Republicans) in our city, state, and federal governments are white.  Thus, who is more suited to fix this national disaster?  I'm sure most of you know what the  answer is.

In summation, I'm pleading with white American voters to join me in sending our politicians (Democrats and Republicans) a strong message that we will not tolerate illegal immigrants telling us how to make government policy that will make it easier for them to break our laws.  Hope you will join me in this  endeavor in our upcoming elections.

Dear Asleep at the Wheel,
Thank you for your comments on illegals. There is truth in what you said about the protesters being loyal only to Mexico, but they were only a million so-called protesters. What about the other 10 mllion illegals that are being good ctizens and are very very thankful to be in the United States. They were not demonstrating or boycotting against America, they were working and contributing to make America competative with the rest of the world. Lets not let emotion cloud our thinking and stir-up things that are not true.
It is time to do something to STOP the illegal flow of immigrants, but do not penalize people who have been here for years and have contributed to our American way of life. Our government has allowed this problem to get out of control. Please do not throw out the baby with the bath water. It is not a quick fix. May God bless our leaders with the wisdom to pass legislation that is good for everyone.

I just thought it was interesting, because this letter is from a hispanic person's point of view. The one's that have been here for years, are legal, and have their lives together feel the same way most other people do. My dad sent me this via Email, I had to put it on here, because all you here about is the bad in people. We see the Sterotypical Hispanic person most of the time, but the one's no one is noticing are the one's who are doing something and are very successful.

Would that be when they make up a fake social security number ( a felony) or worse yet when they steal an American citizen's Social Security Number (a felony) or when the commit tax evasion by working for cash under the table (a felony) or when they file tax returns and claim the EITC which is intended only for poor citizens ( a felony) or when they commit any of the multiude of other crimes they find it necessary to commit because the law stands between them and a better life? No drivers license, no problemo. They drive anyway. Highway sayfety, no problemo. They'll pack 25 illegals into a minivan if they feel like it. No money to pay the Doctor, no problemo. Emergency room bills are for Gringos. It seems there is no law they won't break if they find it inconvenient.

Why would we want people like that who have no respect for our laws as citizens?

And why should people who have been breaking our laws for longer be treated better than somebody who has not been breaking them for as long. It makes no sense.

One thing that really bothers me is how so many people are annoyed with America becoming bilingual. The rest of the world has to cater to the English language, why are we so above that? WE'RE NOT. We need to get over ourselves!

Personaly i agree with this letter, you guys talk about bias opinions, and how we as americans need to get over ourselves. But it is not our duty as americans to cater to illegal immigrants who abuse our system, and disrespect our country, our culture, and our way of life. I live in a town that has been overrun with, drugs, gangs, crime, and recently lots death. And i hate to say it, but it is due to the heavy flow of illegal immigrants coming into my town. I agree that the ones that work hard and appreciate what they have here are more than welcome. But they don't deserve anything special, as we all know america was built on immigration. Every one has faced hardships. But either way all we ask is to gain citizenship, and to learn our language. And yet there answer to our request is protests, children walking out of school, parading the streets yelling "viva la mexico". LOL if they want it so bad they are more than welcome to go back.
