Did you know when President Lincoln was elected he only won 39.5% of the popular vote (which was not a majority of the popular vote, but he had a majority in the Electoral College)?
Did you know that he was the first and only president to impose martial law?
Did you know that he shut down newspapers that were opposed to the Civil War (or war for southern independence if that is how you know it by)?
Did you also know he suspended the writ of habeas corpus?
Did you know that he was the president that instated the draft, and that he was hated by a huge amount of the American population?
.....Gee this sounds like he was a very controversial Republican president for his time and people said he would single-handedly ruin this country, however as time moved on the effects of his actions were shown to be mostly positive, and he is held in high regard today by the majority of Americans and historians. Now today it seems we have a very controversial Republican president who some people are saying will single-handedly ruin the nation... wait does that sound familiar?
I have always liked President Bush. Now maybe people will see when everything is said and done he may not be doing the absolute worse things like everyone said.
