Is anyone else worried?

Is anyone else worried about the need for everything to be endorsed by a celebrity these days? Whether it’s Pepsi, Clothes, Aspirin or Politicians they all seem to be cashing in on the rich and famous.

Take the Oscars for example. The writers strike had to be resolved before the Academy Awards 80th Celebrations, as there are more than just the little, golden men at stake. There are designer labels counting on the hottest new starlet to showcase next season’s threads, gossip magazines needing photographs of the dresses for the next deadline, paparazzi needing the best shot to sell to those magazines, and the list just goes on.

Even the presidential candidates this year need celebs to back their campaigns. Do they honesty think that having a actor appearing on stage with them is going to sway the voters in anyway? All that it proves is that they have friends who don’t necessarily have their heads screwed on right. And quite frankly, if you have friends like that how can you expect to be seen as President?

It’s not only the Oscars and Presidential campaigns but charities as well. I’m not saying that all celebrities do their charity work for publicity, however many of them do. How can you front an organisation if you don’t know what its fighting against? For example, The Veronicas are the latest celebrities to front Wildlife Warriors; a foundation started and wonderfully fronted by the late Steve Irwin. But when to two were interviewed on what exactly the foundation did there was a brief silence and then some umming… then at last an answer of ‘raising awareness of the need of wildlife’. There was no mention of the donations going to Australia Zoo or to the new koala sanctuary that was going to be built. I understand that they are in LA at the moment working on a new album and have no time to worry about wildlife but isn’t that false advertising?

All I am saying is that the world is becoming so sensationalized and celebrity/stardom focused that it seems we need the word ‘celebrity’ or ‘star’ mentioned somewhere in the mix in order for us to be even interested in the product, election campaign or charity. Doesn’t that worry you?

It doesn't really worry me because I buy what I want and do things I want whether or not the celebrities are endorsing it. I can make my own decisions without the influence of the lastest air brushed, cocaine-snorting model or DUI-ed, washed out actor.

I have actually heard that phrase said before. I agree, I am not going to vote for Obama, just because he got Oprah's vote. How asanine is it to think that becuase these celebrities have money, they are more educated on all of the products and issues at hand that we are going to have to make decisions on too. I think that if they really want someone to endorse their products or themselves even, it should be real people, people we can relate to, not those who pay other people to even use the products they are endorsing because they can. If anything I would be wary of the politician with the most celebrity endorsements because they probably agree with the tax laws that help the very high income people of this country.

It's all about selling their product, and if pairing it up with a star or political will help their sales then they will surely do that. I'm not saying it's good, or for it...that's just how the world works these days.
