Led to Christ

I decided the best first post to make would be my testimony of salvation, because one is undoubtedly going to find that I am a devout Christian by forthcoming blogs I plan to publish here on ProgressiveU.org.

I first heard about Christ when I was 7 or 8 yrs old in Sunday School. It was the first and last time I would attend Sunday School as a child.  My babysitter, Jessica, had invited my family to attend church with her and my parents obliged. I absolutely loved it, an was looking forward to going on a regular basis, but never came to pass. For some unknown reason, my family never attended that or any other church for many years.

In 6th grade, my friend invited me to attend youth group with her on a Wednesday night. I enjoyed the activities that night, but I did not feel welcome. I felt rather excluded from everyone, including my friend! Because of the exclusion I felt there, I had no desire to attend another youth group event again for many years.

At 15, I got a job babysitting at First United Methodist Church. (On the application where it asked for a testimony, I simply put that I knew the name of Jesus and that I had 'prayed the prayer to accept Him into my heart'.) In the three years I babysat at FUMC, I tried again to get involved in the youth group, and yet again felt unwelcomed. It didn't bother me as much as before, because I was usually babysitting during the services at this point anyway. After babysitting at FUMC for 3 years, I left for a job at AMC Theatres which only lasted about a month.

In my senior year of high school, I began attending my friends Bible study held Wednesday mornings before classes. It started as a way of getting out of my house earlier in the mornings, and so I wouldn't have to ride the school bus. (I didn't have a car yet, so my parents drove me to school most days.) It soon became something I desired greatly to attend each week--I wanted to learn more about God and His Word, and as I didn't yet have a Bible, this was as good as it got!

About 7 or 8 months post-graduation, this same classmate, whom's Bible study I attended, called and asked to meet up with me and another friend of ours. We set a time and place, and I asked if it would also be possible to attend church with her on Sunday. She agreed; she had previously extended an invitation during my senior year that I'd refused due to the distance between her church and my home being quite a ways. As soon as I entered Cornerstone Church, I felt at home. Everyone was very welcoming, and I quickly and easily got involved with many of the various activities within the youth group. At SuperWow 2006, I made a new promise to walk with God in my heart, and show it in the way my life is lived.

I love a good testimony and it somtimes takes alot of courage to tell our own. I appreciate a fellow member of the family of God!
