How to Exercise Without Ever Going to the Gym in College

I laugh at how much time my friends spend at the gym to get a "better" shape. It is good for their health and all. But some of us just do not have the schedule to exercise. We have to study and work. No wonder most college students gain 20 lbs extra. For those who live on a college campus, I have a solution.

This is how you can stay healthy without going to the gym:

1) Wake up late. Once you wake up late for class, you will panic. Therefore, the urge for you to run to class will appear miraculously. Make sure the night before you put everything you need together in one place. This way you can wake up and do whatever you do in the bathroom, then grab your things at once. When I say wake up late, I do not mean an hour late. You will miss the class which is not a great thing. Late for me is like...five minutes before the class starts and it usually takes you 15 minutes to walk.

2) Buy to go yogurts or snack bars. Once you wake up late, you need energy. You will have no choice but to eat those healthy snacks because you will be rushing out. All you have to do is buy healthy snack for yourself. It will save money instead of eating at the cafeteria in the morning.

3) If you have classes on second floor or higher, use the stairs. That's right. Forget about the elevator, you lazy person! (It surprises me every time when people refuse to take the stairs when their classroom is like...on the second floor...) When you're late to class and in a rush, you feel like you want to fly to your class. By going into the elevator, you'll lose your momentum.

4) Join a sports club. Unlike sports teams, you will not have to do as many drills that may kill you. It's very relaxing and everyone is your friend (haha). You and your friends will be able to do something fun and healthy together. Try martial arts if possible. Not only will you be in shape, but you will also learn self-defense. You can turn a lot of girls on if you know karate guys! And girls, you can always kick those guys' asses if they try to feel you without your permission.

5) Dance. If you have a favorite hip-hop or fast songs that can get you moving every time you listen to it, go for it. Even if you do not know how to dance, just move your body! You can do this in your room if you are embarrassed. Maybe you can even join a dance club or something. It will help you work on your abs.

6) Get a job that will require you to walk a lot. Delivering newspapers, gifts, cards...anything! Exercising will no longer be something you do on your free time. It will be your job and shape you up even more! If someone needs you to deliver or buy something from another building that is in your walking range, volunteer! People will see how nice you are and you can use this opportunity to get your body moving.

7) Join walks or parade. Be a part of something great and exercise at the same time. If you know your neighborhood or school is holding an event like Cancer walk or Gay Pride parade, join it! Get your friends involved too. It's fun and whatever comes out from it will surely be something great.

8) Steal. I do not mean for you to actually steal money from your friends or other people. That's a crime! When I say steal, I mean take something precious from a friend (and I really do mean a FRIEND so he or she doesn't call a cop on you). Maybe a love letter or something secret...anything at all they you know if you take it, that friend will chase you. Once you do it, they WILL chase you. So, run! You can stop when they give up on chasing you and explain to them you need it to exercise. Haha, they will understand that you make them chase after you for 20 blocks to get them to exercise too.

9) Play tag. College students these days forget about their childhood. They focus on money, money, money, education, study, study, education, money, money, sex, sex, sex, and money. Have fun with people from your dorm, get strangers to play along, ask your friends to join. It's fun, exciting, and healthy.

10) Lastly, you should masturbate or have a same-sex sex (if you do not mind). Yup, I said it. Instead of having sex a risk yourself getting pregnant or becoming a father, why not just do it by yourself? Same-sex sex...nothing will come out of it really...except you'll still risk getting diseases. lol...maybe you should just stick with masturbation.

P.S.- If you truly want to sweat, wear thick clothes...even if it's 100 degrees outside.

Heh.

I understand what you mean about the stairs.

There are always ways to exercise anywhere. Even at the office, if I need information from someone, I don't sit at my desk and call another co-worker, I get up and walk there and talk to them.

I used to go to a free health club by my house, but I'm involved in martial arts. I have a bike, but I can admit I don't use it much. (I should now that the weather has become much nicer.

Also some college's have 'open hours' for the basketball courts. A great way to exercise is to just practice. I'm not a basketball fan, but I'd still go down there sometimes.

It takes discipline, but one can also combine studying and exercize.

When you studuy, make flsh cards for terms and, for each one you get wrong, you have to do 1 or 2 pushups. Either right away, or all at the end.

There are many unusual ways to get in some exercise.

You're correct that dancing or moving to your favorite music is a way to exercise without going to the gym because sometimes I move to my favorite music on my iPod and it helps me maintain my weight.

Funny!

The first one made me laugh. Not necessarily because it was the funniest, but because I was expecting this to be serious like "buy some handweights and work them while you're sitting at your desk." You caught me off guard, but that's a good thing

I love this! It is really hard to find time to work out as a student, especially if you are working and in school.
