This is a very controversial issue with many different layers. One argument is that Porn provides a healthy release for viewers, a safe place where they can experience nearly anything without hurting anyone. On the other side theres the argument that Porn is addictive, deragatory against women, portrays women as sex objects that need to be taken, and promotes violence towards women. It has been argued that viewers of Pornography are likely to get urges that the Porn will only satisfy for so long, eventually they will have to be acted out, in many cases that means sexual violence. Others argue that non agressive Porn isn't so bad but violent Porn is very harmful to those acting in the films and those who watch the films, it is thought that the violence in some types of Porn lets people condone sexual violence and desire it. How do you feel about this issue? What are your thoughts?

I did a report for psychology class once on this topic. In my research I found that men who view Porn actually have, in general, a higher respect for women than men who don't. And that those who desire sexual violence most likely desired it to begin with and that fueled their watching of violent porn and not the other way around.
Thats very interesting, was the research you did a survey, questionaire, or previous research that you looked up?
I agree with you about viewers of violent pornography they probably desired it before hand, but my question is should this kind of content be available for people who obviously have problems to begin with? And will the Porn be enough?
I agree with cwoodbury but I will play devil's advocate. What if the only reason they are respectful is because they know they can't do it with them with out them allowing it?
The correlation versus causation argument regarding porn and sexual violence is so fascinating -- I personally agree that those with violent tendencies are more likely to seek out violent pornography, rather than the latter creating the former; however, I wonder to what extent the violent porn perpetuates, reinforces, and enhances these tendencies through entertaining and promoting them. Should we allow it?
Pornography can go both ways. It really depends on the person - someone can get addicted to porn who has a personality that makes them be addicted to things often. Others can easily just become more knowlegable about a shady topic that isn't often discussed.
As for portraying women as sex objects? Please. These women chose to enter the pornography industry on their own. Viewers of pornography know this - pornographic films that show events such as rape are entirely staged. The only people that would become violent because of pornography that stages violent situations are the same people who'd become violent due to video games or movies. Most people can be perfectly happy with it.
