It's hard being a freak of nature. In a world were people demand normal when normal is clearly undefinable, It's hard. It helps to know that you're not alone and there are some worse than you. In connection, I don't like associating myself with freaks of nature like me. I guess that I somehow believe that associating with freaks of nature will only make more of a freak of nature out of me. But essentially, I'm just a hypocrite in a hypocrite world. Unfortunately, freaks of nature like me, tend to magnetize other freaks of nature. Cause you see, most freaks feel alone, and they often seek companionship in, well, their kind.
I have a lot of friends who are freaks: the fat one, the psycho, the anorexic, the albino, the alien-looking, the gotta-be-lesbian and more. But there's this one freak who's satisfied in being in his own vast universe. This freak is the epitome of what stereotypes think a freak is.
This 17-yr old freak who's still in 3rd yr HS is Romeo Dalangin. What his mom's unhealthy habits during pregnancy gave him? Mild Autism.
In his case, the adage "People only see what they are prepared to see" fully applies. People a lot of times misunderstand his mental incapability.
And this completely normal guy keeps bullying him for his petty entertainment. This completely normal guy who has everything from looks to wealth (except brains unfortunately) keeps having problems of his own makings. In short, he's down the road we all call 'self-destruction'.
And today (27 January), because of this stupid bully who agitated and made Romeo bellow in the middle of a power point presentation in AP (Araling Panlipunan or Social Studies in English), our class will not be included in the showing of 'La Amistad' on Monday!
Up to know I keep wondering, who is it that's really a freak? The autistic? Or the one sinking low to an autistic's level?

People can be real jerks sometimes. A lot of mentally challenged kids go to my high school and some of the things I've seen make me want to cry. I think people need to learn to have a little more repsect, maturity and acceptance fot those who we think of as "freaks."
What a complete idiot. Have you thought about reporting this guy to the administration? Maybe that seems kind of harsh or tattle-taleish, but what he's doing to Romeo just isn't okay. He has a mental disability (a mild one) and it's not right for him to be treated that way. I advise that you take action in helping this person that seems to be helpless in his situation.
I mean, us freaks gotta stick together, right?
Has anyone seen the video with the autistic boy who played in the high school basketball game after being the team's manager for 4 years? It was senior night and he got to come into the game near the end when his team was ahead. He scored 20 points and the fans rushed the court.
The best part of the story for me was the way his classmates treated him. They had posters with his face on it and they all called him J-Mac. If you want to see his game, just google Jason McElwain. What a great story. Its a good balance to this sad story you told. the only problem is that i think there are more bad stories than there are J-Mac stories.
