I've participated in two Blogging For Progress Scholarship Contests but after the last one (ended in June I believe), I didn't return to the site. Until now, of course.
So why did I come back?
It only takes a little exploring of other people's blogs and some entry-writing to understand. I came back for the intellectual pieces from people who actually care. I fully enjoyed being able to voice opinions while getting feedback from other bloggers. I remember waiting anxiously for the first comments of my posts because I needed to know what others thought of my writing and my thoughts.
I probably disappeared from the site in the first place because of the frustration of putting so much work into blog entries, comments, and reads to gain points and not even getting on the Top 25 list. It was equally frustrating to know that no matter how much work I put into this blog, there was always someone else out there in the world who could do more. Just like the listings in FastWeb.com, the scholarships reach out to people all over the U.S., so how can I compete with thousands of other competitors?
I'll tell you honestly, that last fact is quite aggravating.
The answer to why I've returned here: To enjoy the honest opinions, the intellectual thoughts, and the inspiring comments once more without the worry of this contest. Sure, I'll still try to gain points, but I know how unrealistic it is. I will try harder in some respects, but since I came into this particular contest a few days late, I think I'll wait for the next to roll around.
Good luck to all you serious bloggers in the contest. You're gonna need it. Just stay realistic, write some awesome blogs, and comment on my posts.
Hey, you didn't think you'd get away without another plug for my blog, did ya?

I know what you mean. It gets really frustrating for me when I can't find well-written, intelligent, purposeful blogs to read. Last contest, I gave up not long after the halfway mark because I saw no possible way of beating Fanaile Essence. Turns out I was probably right. I'm a moderator now (technically, although I don't do much), so I can't participate in the competition. Which is actually a relief in some sense because I feel no pressure about my number of reads or feel like I need to comment on posts I care nothing about.

This is the first contest I've participated in. I do find the competition a little agrevating. I've posted some bloggs simply because I thought they'd create controversy. This hasn't worked as well as I'd hoped. Other blogs are my true feelings and these have created more debate. One of my blogs, in my opinion, failed because I allowed in to turn into an arguement between myself and another blogger.
Still, I keep plugging on.
I wonder why I am here when I have an off spell. Like I cant think of good blogs to write or I dont feel like reading other people's stuff. It sucks to know your in the top 25 but dont know your exact ranking or when you know your having an off day and others a posting up a storm.
I dont think I could handle the responsibility of being a moderator though. I like to roam free and hopefully win some money!!!!

Perhaps if our goal is to learn from others, than our results will be more rewarding. When you selfishly set out on an endeavor there is only so far you can go before you become unhappy with the results. I learned about this site through fastweb.com. I participate in some events and not in others. I find I really enjoy reading most of the posts on here. I enjoy commenting on others' more so than I do even writing my own blogs. Go figure.
Doing what you love, is merely loving what you do.
unless i have a passion for it.

I entered progressive you for the scholarship. but like you, i realized i probably would never win. If I do have a highly rated post, it disappears in a couple days. But the reason I stay on here is also to read others blogs and to share my opinions (though people don't always agree).
Welcome back!

I pretty much gave up on the schiolarship the day after I joined. With a full time job, school, and a household to run, I don't exactly have a lot of free time to sit and post one blog after the next. So I, like you, now just come here to read what others have to say and to say a few things myself:)
One of the winners in the last contest only posted 22 blogs throughout the 3 1/2 months of the contest.

But how much time did they spend commenting and rating?

My Latest Blog Posts
I imagine a fair amount. I'm just saying, you don't have to post one blog after another to win the contest. And comments generally take less time to construct than blogs.
