I once thought that I could make it through my life without a college education. I spent three years working at a mediocre job, and then realized that I would never make it. In high school, we are not truly thinking about paying rent, car notes, or even car insurance or health insurance. As we get older, we will realize that these are absolutely necessary to live a life 'above the line'. In order to live a life free from scraping, that college degree must be obtained. Trust me, there is more to it than just life style.
The US world of business is changing rapidly. We are moving from a manufacturing/production country to a service country. What does this mean? Well, all the so-called unskilled jobs are moving out of the country. . factories and plants. . .that is why we have many unemployed. Basically, if you want to have a job in the future, you will need a degree. That degree is a garauntee to employers that you can work in a service industry-service requires knowledge, skill and know how.
As we move into the next few decades, jobs will require college degrees. Make sure you do not get left behind.

Such thinking has existed for quite some time. All the posters listing the average incomes of individuals at certain educational levels are quite shocking:
Some High School: 12k
High School: 21k
Associates:29k
Bachelors:41k
It is shocking, and the gap between those numbers is getting wider as we speak. It certainly motivates me to get the education.
I completely agree that a degree is absolutely necessary in todays world to get a good job. I have been a bookkeeper for 19 years at business and my pay is OK. I have finally realized the only way to advance my career, is going to college to get my degree as a Certified Public Accountant. This will give me so many more options for better pay, benefits, retirement and a lot other things. Yes, my age is showing but now days a college degree is a must!!!
