Movie Review: The Butterfly Effect

Tagged:  •

I think I've heard "The Butterfly Effect is such a crappy movie" too many times.

I dont get it.

I loved the movie.

I thought the Butterfly Effect was so deep and thoughtful. Its one of those movies that really makes you think. Its one of those movies you take with you throughout the day and think about.

I only had two slight problems with it, and it doesnt even really effect my feelings about the movies awesome-ness. First of all, I wish they would have refered back to The Chaos Theory shown at the begining of the movie. Other than that quick reference, there is no real implacation of why the movie was called "The Butterfly Effect". Second, there were a few parts where it was just so hard not to laugh. Because it was Ashton Kutcher, I kept thinking "KELSO!" from That 70's Show. It was during those times that I just had to think about what it actually meant in the movie and not think about Kelso, Eric, Donna, Fez and Hyde getting high.

I cant believe it took me this long to actually see the movie just because so many people said it was bad. The story was awesome, the acting was good, and the ending made a lasting impression on me. (I cried for a while after it was over). This movie really made me think, and I really like that. I dont just want to watch a movie where everything is on the surface and right there for you. The holes left open in The Butterfly Effect was just enough to make me curious and inquizative, but not disapointed or left hanging.

Another great thing about this movie is that it has one of my favorite songs of all time in it. "Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World. For those of you who have no clue what that song is or who that band is, the song plays during the dinner Evan has with Kaylee before her brother distroyes Evan's car.

Okay. Now that I've gotten that out, I'd really like to know why you liked or didnt like the movie.

I liked it because it made me think a lot about what my life would be like had I made better or different decisions in the past.

but would it have made the rest of your life better?
