A Pain in the Neck

I am wearing a neck brace right now. Friday morning I woke up and stretched like normal, and something in my neck popped. Now I can barely move my neck without pain. At 17, optimism is automatic. I’m a little disconcerted, but not terribly worried. We’re going to a doctor tomorrow, and I’m sure everything will work out just fine... That’s the funny thing.

We tend to assume everything is going to be just fine. We take running and dancing and mobility in general for granted. Actually, we take many things for granted, assuming that if they are not here tomorrow or the day after that they will be restored shortly thereafter.

That assumption is not necessarily wrong... Chances are overwhelmingly in favor of full and fast recovery, but there is always the 1 or 2 percent who, for some reason, don’t get to walk again. Life changes. I know that. The tragedy is when something possessed was not appreciated until it is too late.

So while I’m sitting here looking like a dork in my neck brace and glasses, feel free to poke some jokes and pitch in a few hypothetical high-fives because I am determined to beat this thing.

But… will you do a little dance for me, too?

I agree. We always think someone will "fix us" and we think everything will be fine.

I'm rooting for you!

Good luck & Feel better!

Good post - although there is nothing wrong with being optomistic, we need to realize what we have & need to stop taking it for granted.
