Let's talk about sex

As a high school senior, I have seen many pregnant girls this year. My peers, fellow classmates, who I thought had the same goals as me:  to get an education and succeed in life.

At first, this sight sickened me. I told my friends that I would be so embarrassed to be pregnant at school. Walking around and hanging out just like it is nothing. However, a friend brought out an interesting point. She said, "At least these girls are getting their education. They are still in school, going to class and enjoying their senior year."

I thought about this and challenged her with these questions: "What is that saying to younger students? Is our society so numb to the fact that each year the age of kids having sex goes down each year? And that a majority of adolescents don't believe that oral sex is sex?"

She replied: "Yes, this is true. But I commend them on trying to finish out their senior year."

I asked around and found out that she is right. In fact, because the government does not want to fund such programs like Planned Parenthood and refuses to acknowledge that pre-marital sex exist, the only chioce these girls have is to go to school pregnant. Here in Texas, they are planning on closing a number of school's for pregnant girls.

And so I ask you: Is it so wrong for these girls to get an education? At least they are trying to make better choices and give their children better lives.

I do commend them for wanting to finish high school.

Bad idea. Regardless of pregnant status, such action is racism under the pretense of social/moral guidelines. BS.

I know I may talk about racism/discrimination/race a lot, but I did hear that low income children are the ones getting pregnant more and more often and they put those things such as Planned Parenthood in those neighborhoods to promote abortions and in that aspect kill the future generations. This is what a professor told me; just relaying the message. As whether I believe it to be true, I don't know because we don't have a Planned Parenthood in my neighborhood, but I live in a county full of white people.

It also used to be that in my county if a child was pregnant, then they didn't go to the high school, they had to go to night school. They did that because they didn't want to make it seem acceptable to become pregnant in high school. It's kind of like a trend if you think about it. Think about when you lost your virginity; was it because you wanted to, or because everyone else was doing it??? I remember reading a magazine where a girl said she felt left out because all of her friends were pregnant and she wasn't...

In the past 10 years, teenage pregnancy has increased some 30% in the low-income classes. Ironically, during the same time many clinics have been encouraging abstinence more heavily than providing birth control under the flag of the religious far right. Coincidence? Maybe.

I always find it odd that people are complaining about how young people are getting pregnant when having a family at those ages used to be the norm. If we weren't supposed to be having kids now, we wouldn't be able to. End of story!

I see that girls should get an education regardless if they are pregnant or not.
I also go to a school were pregnancy is common and in some instanes i do actually know of certain girls who wished to be pregnant. I guess thay think there is more help nowadays, like gov programs and such, so its not like the end of the world.
And anyways, like Meaghan Kochheiser said it used to be the norm, and nowadays a woman can do anything in life w/o being pointed at. I may be wrong, but i would believe that centuries ago a woman would be more careful towards having sex because of the consequences it would bring. Abstinence should not be an answer but supporting programs such as Planned Parenthood where one can learn to be responsible.
