What's your take on the ERA? I personally am against its passing, after researching for a school paper. I won't recite the entire thing here, but one of the key points I made was the issue of abortion.
Because the ERA guarantees equal rights under law, and the majority of feminists groups (i.e. NOW) are arguing that women are fundamentally different from men in that they have different needs, then the whole abortion issue comes into play.
If a woman has the right to an abortion, does the father of the child have the same right to abort the child? I couldn't answer this question, and neither could my Women in Literature class. I'm interested to hear what you all have to say about this topic. Not necessarily about the abortion issue, but about the passing of the ERA as a whole.

I didn't know that the ERA was even in congress anymore. That's news to me. Last I knew it was defeated. I don't really think this is much of an issue anymore, although it should be. The ERA itself may need some revision, but i think that in general it should be passed. I myself do not know where I stand on abortion, I haven't really decided for sure.

The ERA, I believe, has been an issue in Congress ever since being introduced in 1923. It's still waiting for 3 more states to ratify it, at which point it would become the 27th Amendment to the Constitution.
The general consensus among my classmates was that the ERA, in its current wording, is too vague to be effective. The ERA is basically one sentence. I don't have the link handy, but the National Organization of Women has it up for viewing on their website.
Any particular reasons why you're for the passing of the ERA? Just curious.
