Making the World a Better Place, One Kitty at a Time

From my experiences, promises are often kept but are just as commonly broken. I am proud to say that I have very recently kept a promise that I made around ten years ago. It was a promise made to an “almost” grandma that I would make sure her dear cat would be taken care of if anything ever happened to her. I will admit that I never thought it was a promise that I would have to keep; my “almost” grandma was a sweet, strong old lady, and I was sure that she would easily last longer than a cat. Unfortunately, at seventy-two years of age, she passed away.

Everything revolving around her death seemed to just happen by chance. My mom just happened to glance at the obituaries and discovered the sad news; I was not able to make it to the funeral and just happened to stop by the cemetery at the same time as the woman’s son, who mentioned to me that they did not have any idea what to do with her pet; I just happened to have a friend who lives by himself and was willing to take in the animal, at least for the next year until I go away to college and get my own apartment.

I am eternally grateful to my friend for taking in this cat, especially since the animal is diabetic and needs two insulin shots a day. Aside from being a bit on the lonely side, the cat seems to be doing just fine. I think his current roommate is enjoying the situation more than he is willing to admit, too.

Me. . . I am still mournful about the loss of such a wonderful lady, but I am very happy that I was able to keep such a vital promise that I made when I was just a little girl. Such an opportunity does not come around very often in life, and I am glad that I succeeded in this test of honesty, loyalty, and love.
