Everything is Illuminated

Good evening/morning all.

You know when you want to post because you have so much on your mind but you have no idea where to start or how to communicate, so you just type? That's how I feel right now.

So... I'm going to speak about a film I just saw. I watched "Everything is Illuminated" with a good friend of mine. And it was beautiful. I highly recommended it if you have not seen it.

I am very critical of movies and very picky, but I found myself watching this film and just letting go of the thought that this is just a film and it's all an act... and I let myself connect with humanity. Even if this is an act, this is still humanity at work. This is a reflection of who we are.

I was very fond of this movie because recently I have this growing fascination with culture, and this film deals a lot with cultural differences, or lack thereof.

I'm fascinated by how different we all live our lives. How we see things and how our experiences shape what we believe in and what is normal. This world is filled with many cultures and I want to go out there to discover and understand them all. It's so interesting! Distance has such a big impact on us. Because I was born and lived all my life in San Diego, I see the world in a very different life from someone who has lived in Amersterdam all their life, or even New York City. And distance isn't the only reason why we are so different. Time, class, race, gender, appearence, sexuality, etc... all define and make up who we are. It's so fascinating how different we are, but at the same time we are all humans. We all love, feel. Posess wants, dreams, fears. So similar and so different. Amazing. We all live in the same world, yet we all see it differently and never could one day experience it through someone elses eyes.

Tehe, this is a very philosophical post. But I tend to do that a lot. But please, go see "Everything is Illuminated". I would explain the plot, but I think once in awhile seeing a film even though you have no idea what it is about can be very exciting. I also believe you may appreciate it more. It's no fun knowing what's going to happen next. Trust me. Would life really be better if we knew the ending?

It sounds like a cool movie, I'm very interested in culture too. After my human geography course, I really like observing different cultural variations across the country, I'll have to check it out.

I love culture.... I traveled to six european countries for my senior springbreak and have tried to travel more since then.. of course most of my more recent travel has been within the fifty states..
I think this is by the same people that made eternal sunshine of the spotless which was a great movie that I would recommend if you haven't seen it. I will probably be going to see this but if not in the theaters definetly when it comes to video.

It was made in 2005, so it's on DVD. :o)

It's not made by the same people as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", but that's a great movie too! (The only thing they share in common is Elijah Wood.) The director of "Eternal Sunshine" just released a movie that's out in selected theatres called "The Science of Sleep". I highly recommend it. It's wonderful as well.

Ah, I've never left the country, that so cool that you were able to travel so much on your springbreak, that sounds like quite a neat experience.
