Welcome to McDonald's! Would you like to try our new cellulite shakes?

I worked at McDonald's for over 2 years during high school. The days there were fun and I enjoyed my coworkers and management. Eating there was cheap and easy since I worked there and could get discounts. I have moved off to college and in the past three months I have only had McDonald's once.

Since giving up McDonald's I have noticed less cellulite. Yes, at age 18 I did indeed have cellulite but it is disappearing. I also break out less. And my stomach does not get as sick as it used to.

Now I love McDonald's just as much as the next person. In fact when i was four I told my mom that I was going to run away to McDonald's. I grew up loving the happy meals and the toys that awaited me in the little boxes. I was told at six by the manager in our small town McDonalds to return when I was 16 for a job (which I did).

While working at McDonald's I saw the skinniest and the fattest people ever. I was kids of all ages and adults barely able to walk. There were times however when I would see someone so fat that I really just wanted to yell at them. I wanted to tell them "NO! I will not give you 4 double cheeseburgers! You will get a salad! With Grilled Chicken!! And Balsamic Vinagerette! You will drink water! And if you are still hungery you may have a small parfait without the granola! I get off at four so I expect to see you here and you will run!" Instead, I would say, "Hi Welcome to McDonalds! Four double cheese burgers, Okay. Would you like some fries with that? Large? Okay? Oh and our 42 oz. sodas are on special only 82 cents! Okay! That'll be $8.47! Have a great day!"

I would kill me to see chubby kids eating an entire Big Mac. I badly just wanted to slap their parents. I would always ask on Happy Meals if the kids wanted Apples and juice? Parents would generally say "Nah, just give 'em the fries and soda."

I have cousins who are obese and they love McDonald's. When I take them there they are only allowed to get a small Happy Meal with Apples (no caramel) and juice or white milk. They do get a litte grumpy with me, but I refuse to help them get fatter. I then take them to the playground where I tell them to play and run around. If they are good they get a small vanilla cone.

You can eat at McDonald's and not be fat...just make the healthy choices. Get grilled instead of fried. The Egg McMuffin is the healthiest breakfast item. The filet of fish and small hamburger are the best dinner choices besides a salade with low fat dressing. Drink water instead of soda. And encourage your kids to eat apples instead of fries.

"You can eat at McDonald's and not be fat...just make the healthy choices."

That is the key. There are those on the left who drool with desire to sue what is being called "Big Food" in the style of the "Big Tobacco" companies. . . Blaming THEM for a person's choices.

It is ultimately up to the individual to decide what they're going to do with their lives.

And, no matter how much their choices may infuriate us, it is still their choices, and they the same right to eat a burger that I do to eat a salad.

Yeah, it's just painful to watch them make themselves fatter. Maybe we should start carding for big macs.

I'm not sure that that is exactly the level of maturity we strive for on ProU, or the type of comment this blogger was looking for.

Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all.

Are you just going aound to snipe at everyone that chooses to use the 1st amendment in a way they want to?
There are 10 types of people in the world; Those who know binary and those who don't

Actually, no.

Any more questions?

your snap at her use of the first amendment is more of a snarky comment than hers is.

If she doesn't have a right to be grumpy at them, why do you have a right to be grumpy at her?

I agree if you are just wanting the ten points then at least write, "I agree that it's gross."

Ugh... I feel disgusting now. Thanks for ruining the only day of the week I go out to lunch and don't eat the salad I bring to work.

J/k... thanks for the post. It was very interesting and insightful. I think would also go insane if I worked at McDonald's for the reasons you have described here, as well as many others. I used to date a guy who was a manager at Mickey D's (don't ask) and he may have been one of the dumbest people I knew; mostly because he was so proud of how he could order those high school kids around. Needless to say, it didn't last long.

It's funny how we as Americans have a tendency to play the blame game... we blame obesity on large food portions, or McDonald's; we blame teenage pregnancies on poor sex education at the schools, we blame the war in Iraq on George Bush and poverty on not enough funding for welfare. But in the end... all of our problems really only belong to us.

Each and every one of us is responsible for our own lives, and if we stopped pointing fingers and started focusing on ourselves by saying, "I will not be unhealthy, I will not have unprotected sex before I am ready for a child, and I will vote for people who best represent me." then maybe this country would be a better place for everyone.

exactly. It is not the job of the government or anyone else to do our thinking for us.

Sorry for spoiling your unhealthy day, lol. I have one as well, but I don't spend it on McDonald's...generally pizza...yum...but I do get whole wheat crust! So that must count for something.

Makes me wonder why people at fast food resturants don't go on shooting rampages. The eating habits of people are horrific and it's their faults, but they like to blame everyone.

Member of the Progressive U Alumni Association

How many legal gun owners do you think there are at McDonalds on staff? heh.

son_of_disaster's picture

lol, zero.

Member of the Progressive U Alumni Association

Exactly... between the high school workers and those who might not be as legal as others.... I don't imagine there are many.

though, as we've learned.... legal gun ownership has little to do with gun violence.

Indeed. As long as you can lie about your age or steal your parents or someone elses guns, you've got a problem.

I'd like to see somebody try and steal Lance's gun from him. Especially if it was an illegal immigrant and we got him deported.

It would be kind of entertaining. We could get out the digital video camera, and then watch it later together with some popcorn.

It'd be much harder to steal if Oklahoma would loosen up on some of its laws written by oklahoma democrats as to where I'm allowed to carry.

I feel the same way...

I used to work at Papa Johns and I got so disgusted sometimes at the people who would order a large pizza with extra garlic butter and extra cheese and a side of garlic Parmesan breadsticks with extra butter ... and that's not the bad part. The same people would call or come in and order twice a week.

Some people came in so much I got to learn their children's names.

Oh yeah, their kids were fat.

The garlic is GREAT for them, but the butter balances that out in a bad way. heh.

Volunteer for the Progressive U Alumni Association

Call me a vampire, but ugh....garlic.....

Pizza's actually decently healthy as long as you don't get extra of the high-fat stuff and you don't eat a large by yourself...

Not eating a whole pizza by yourself is often the key point there... o.o

-- quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Member of the Progressive U Alumni Association

In college, I worked for a pizza place.

A large pizza can be a few meals for a person. Just have to invest in ziploc bags.

As for garlic... I love it.

It is very good for you on many levels. Though if you cook it, it loses some of its medicinal value.

Garlic is a good way to ward off a cold, and other sicknesses.

eat a whole raw clove.

Takes a bit to get it down, and you HAVE to chew it up a bunch so the chemicals can interact before they hit your stomach.

Come on, Lancekates, you're a smart person...

You can't tell me that dipping your pizza that is dripping with grease and thick with doughy yuckiness into greasy, fatty butter is good for you just because it has a little garlic in it, lol.

Pizza can be a few meals for a person, yes, but most people don't take advantage of that thought (sorry, this is a response to some other people, too.) But feeding pizza to your children 2 nights a week is not benefiting them in any way.

Hope that makes sense. Yeah, a slice of pizza is probably better for you than a value meal with a large fry and extra large coke and a big mac dripping with yuckiness... but commercial pizza places are not concerned about your health.

You should see some of the ingredients we put into that stuff.

I think I'm going to go order a pizza.

Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust Pizza
Pizza Hut Chicken Wings

Mmmmmm... I am making myself hungry.

No, it's Domino's buffalo chicken kickers, not Pizza Hut chicken wings...gosh get it right. :P

"Come on, Lancekates, you're a smart person..."

Thank you, I hope that wasn't meant sarcastically. That would be rude.

"You can't tell me that dipping your pizza that is dripping with grease and thick with doughy yuckiness into greasy, fatty butter is good for you just because it has a little garlic in it, lol."

Nope, I didn't. I said the opposite. I said that while garlic is VERY good for you, all that butter balances that out.

Garlic is VERY good for you, butter.... not so much (though despite what the health food people try and say, butter is better for your than margerine.)

I know what goes into pizza. heh. I used to work for a pizza place. ALOT of oil and grease into everything.

engkatiemarie's picture

Domino's is healthier... Pizza Hut literally fries their pizzas in the pan, but I'll be damned if their stuffed crust pizza isn't the greatest pizza on this miserable planet.

Member of the Progressive U Alumni Association

Pizza Hut is where I worked. a few squirts of oil into the pan before the dough was put in.... yup.

I like Papa Murphy's, but they're the 'take home and bake' pizzas... not quick enough for today's instant gratification society.

BurningExample's picture
Volunteer for the Progressive U Alumni Association

That's right, you did work at a pizza place! I remember that from eons ago. (Well, about a month, but who's counting?)

That "you're a smart person" comment wasn't meant sarcastically, I mean it, lol.

I just didn't want people to get the wrong impression that "Oh, well, the butter is unhealthy, but it has garlic in it, so I'm okay to let this clog my arteries." Yuck. It makes me sick to think about it... and yet Papa John's will always be my favorite pizza (after Papa Murphy's.)

You guys put oil in the pan first? Gross. I will never go to Pizza Hut again. Not that I ever really liked it... :)

Yup, different sizes got different numbers, but it was anywhere from 2 to 4 'squirts' of oil, (I'd say maybe a table spoon or two per squirt)

then the dough was put in and put in the retarder to properly thaw (frozen crusts) and soak in the oil to keep from sticking.

I try to avoid alot of oils and butters (though i'll use EVOO in cooking), same with salt.

I had a pizza hut slice today...

I can't say I love the pizza but the crust is amazing.

And I realized that it's probably because it's fried.

MMMMM I think I need to go run on the treadmill after that, LOL

I had McDonald s today for lunch. I had the McDeli sandwich on whole wheat McBun with McGrilled chicken, and McWater to drink.
I ve lectured some parents I know about buying deep fried garbage and colas for their kindergartners. One kid told her parents recently that if they died she definitely wouldn t want to be raised by me because I always give her only healthy food. Her mom smiled and said that s why she likes to have me around.
I just shake my head when a parent says that they only give Little Junior hot dogs and cola because "That's all he'll eat." I mean, OF COURSE that's all he"ll eat if you give him the role of decision maker.
Little kids need parents make responsible decisions on their behalf about what they're going to eat, because there's no way the kid can know how to order a healthy meal.

McDonalds owns a bunch of other restaurant chains, including Chipotle (which I just had tonight for the first time--yummy!), which claims to use all-natural ingredients.

BurningExample's picture
Volunteer for the Progressive U Alumni Association

"all natural" doesn't mean organic or healthy.

Hell, "natural flavors" and "artificial flavors" are the exact same chemical CRAP used to flavor your foods, just one is derived from something (anything) in the "natural world" and then altered in the lab, one is just created in the lab.

Hey!

rBST is not crap. Stop feeding into the crazy people who think anything that doesn't come directly out of the cow isn't good for you - I mean, you could eat manure, and that wouldn't be healthy.

Speaking of which, I really need to finish that article.

BurningExample's picture
Volunteer for the Progressive U Alumni Association

What, you don't like a manure patty on your burger? :)

I was just saying it's stupid for a restaurant to claim to be "all natural". I'm not saying those "natural" and/or "artificial" flavors aren't good for you... just that they're not really "natural" in the word's purest sense.

We should convince the enviro-weenies to eat their own poo.

Imagine how much they could reduce their carbon footprint and fight global warming if they only ate their own poo!

Thank you for the insightful blog!

I agree that McDonalds isn't bad for you; but, only if you eat one of their foods, once in a while.
