I love this guy (I guess I love a lot of guys but sadly I probably won't get to meet most of the ones I admire and love since they all are so famous and made shit load of money*)
Oh yeah...Bill Maher...he is smart (he fits my definition and I know everyone almost always has a different one that they follow or believe in-- for me, he is an example of what I think of as genius in his area and profession as satire and news and comedy)
I am currently watching his show Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO actually (old episodes that I wanted to watch but I had no time because of summer classes and now the fall semester...)
I love how he just says what I want to hear and I just love it- I know I said that numerous times but I love him. yah, me a Muslim girl. I don't give a damn that he makes such crude jokes because they are that-jokes but what he says is what I stand behind and support almost 98.9 percent of the time.
I admire and envy -his charisma, his courage...
Maybe it is easy for him to say certain stuff because he is not from the minority or from the same kind of back ground as me...but I have to admit he is a minority because he stands up for what he believes in, against the system and against this screwed up no-good son of a... govt.
and he is an atheist and is proud of it .
So my favorite episode of Bill Maher's Real time-that's a long list.
I think anyone interested should check out the 95th episode with Chris Rock (Dan Rather was on there too and said some really really meaningful stuff-this one is can't miss) and also the one with John Legend and a Princeton professor (both were on the same episode) and YEAH, the one with Madeline Albright (that is a different one)
Well I watched almost all since his first one_ I love his wit, his comments, he ain't afraid to be politically incorrect- Isn't that what makes him cool?
Actually no- i love him because he knows his shit and he teaches me things in a non-boring manner
OH! I forgot the other guys- two that you and I and most on this website should love are Stewart and Colbert
Haven't they forced us to confront things in a manner that is fantastic...and really powerful?
P.S. ask me if you don't exactly know where to find them (though almost anyone interested should be easily able to find these episodes)

Hm, I didn't know anything about Bill Maher prior to reading this blog, but it didn't convince me.
To be proud to be an atheist makes no sense. I am an atheist, but I'm not proud of it. It's not a real religion. I just don't believe in God, and to me, while it's nothing to be ashamed of, it's nothing to promote.
And politically correctness is overrated, but crude jokes? Those aren't funny at all. There are plenty of ways to be witty without being crude.
Am I missing something about why he is so great?
fact that he is not scared or afraid to tell it anyone--
he holds his own beliefs and thinks things through
and the jokes i am referring to are all about the govt and most of the time he says shit that I think and he get his message across--without backing down---even if he stands up to authorities
I guess maybe i was wrong to classify them as "crude jokes," but if you have not even watched one episode then you can't say much about the subject matter
I leave you to be the judge of how you think of him,I just stated my opinion
it seems you did not read my italicisized statements or many others that explained why i like him
so i would say, you missed a lot and only pciked up those things that you hold to be someone's flaws/failures or something of that sort
and who does not have them?
and being an atheist is not a flaw or something to not promote, for most people
but i understand you don't feel that way- and you are entitled to whatever and however you feel
i think you need to see what the message i was saying was...
it's his guts and his courage to uncover all the things and more that are wrong with us as humans and this country..............
he loves america but he hates things people do here and what America has come to be known as
ps. if i didn't convince you, it's quite okay for me, but i got it out there that i commend people like him and yeah so what if they joke and say stuff i wouldn't-that's them, and they should be able to be them, he hasn't ever made any really mean and hurtful remarks but he has ridiculed the people who do make them and those that are hypocrites (make them behind closed doors)

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.
said it is
beauty is in the "brain" of the beholder rather than the eye
but we only hear that specific scientifically inaccurate statement and so i use it often too
it is all in one person's perpective
thanks for commenting :)

I loved watching Politically Incorrect when that was still on the air. We would all stay up and watch it and argue and debate whatever the topic was. I hated when it was canceled. I still miss that show!

it was such a stupid thing to do, i am sure they regretted canceling (abc i think, but abc is always been a bit of a wuss-my biased opinion)
Oh by the way, for anyone interested
Politically Incorrect got canceled because of these comments made by Maher
"We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly. Stupid maybe, but not cowardly." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politically_Incorrect
i don't like using Wiki as a source but i have to say it is the handiest and easy to access so...that's where I got the exact quote but I have to admit, it is something I have remembered because I was so shocked (good way) that someone would say that, but I think he said it too soon and it came off as really insensitive and unpatriotic in SOME people's eyes who could not see his logic
