Duty or Choice?

My oldest uncle in Trinidad who is always nice to us and all crossed the limit of talking.  All he talked about when we were these is what he did for my grandfather’s funeral and all the preparations.  As a son, the oldest, isn’t that a responsibility of yours, especially if you lived closest to my grandparents?  He goes on about how he took him to the hospital on Thursday and was there to see his last breath and took care of every little thing.  But the question I asked myself is where was he when my grandmother needed him earlier in the week when he first fell off the hammock?  Where was he all these years when the neighbors were doing everything a son should for them?  He told us multiple times when I was there how he did all that and how he went back and forth taking care of the business.  Yes, it was good that you did all that and but where was he before?  How much credit do you deserve?  And how long are you going to milk it?
