After hearing of the reports that a 16 year old girl may have been forced to bear the child of her 50 year old husband, I am heartbroken. I think it's because there are people in the world destroying a beautiful thing. My spiritual beliefs are everything to me and not in a crazy fundamentalist way. It's who I am and how I have chosen to live my life. I am saddened that this young girl did not have to same choice. She was 15 when she was pregnant.
What were the members of this off shoot from the Church of Latter Day Saints thinking? They aren't even supported by the LDS Church and named themselves the Fundamentalist LDS Church. Apparently, there were a couple hundred members living on a ranch in El Dorado, Texas. This particular compound was built and formed by Warren Jeffs, the man currently in prison for facilitating rape and incest. (Google him if you're interested.) The ranch has been watched due to it's connection with Warren Jeffs, but no one moved in until the girl mentioned above supposedly called the police.
The debate of whether or not Mormons are Christians or if the members of the FLDS Church are Mormons are of no interest to me. I don't even care if you could consider cult members to be religious or holy. If we use our common sense and think of an older male believing that he can force a younger woman to have sex with him, can we say that he is even an upstanding citizen? Of course not. It's illegal for a woman younger than 16 to marry in Texas even if she has parental consent. It's a sad day when religion goes so far that some people do not use their common sense. I believe we have brains for a reason and we should use them--to reason things out.
I just hope they find the young girl and her baby and that everyone gets the help they need.
Here's some links I used, but you can just search the internet too if you want to know more details.

What was that man thinking? That's horrible that he did that.
This disgusts me. I don't understand how people can be so evil. Well I can understand how, but why must they? This breaks my heart as well.

Love comments? I do too!
lots of people have done horrible things in the name of religion, the Spanish inquisition, the crusades, manifest destiny , human sacrifices, the list goes on and on the fact that bad people will continue to justify doing evil by saying that its holy is just something that we as humans and entropic beings will do from time to time.
it is really sad tho to see that happening.
