Work to Live

How much time in our lives do we spend doing something we really don't want to? You work to get the money to do the things that you want to do, but spend all your time working. It's an unfairly balanced equation, and in the end you almost always end up in the red anyways. Today's society is made so that we are thrust right from the cushion of our parent's homes into the arms of debt.

It is expected of each highschool graduate to move directly into college. This being the norm, many of us will begin our adult lives in debt, all in the name of making the money we will need to pay off that debt. Surely we want to be able to live comfortably as well, but how many people will actually graduate from college with the ability to pay cash for everything they will want from there on out?

After college, you will be paying off your student loans, but you will need a house. You may even need a house before you have graduated college. You will take out a loan for that house, and begin paying for that. You will be paying for that long after your student loans are finished.

What is this? Is it even possible to avoid? Not only is all of this a problem, but you must HAVE credit to GET the credit you will need for these loans. If you are like me and cannot ride on your parent's coat tails even so far as to have them cosign a loan, you are pretty much doomed to a life of difficulty. Is it fair to punish those who are moved to, or required to, do it all on their own?

Of course not. Life's not fair. I wish I could smack people in the head with a brick when they say that.

I understand life is not fair. That doesn't make it any more justifiable. It is avoidable, but the bigwigs of today are too lazy to try to upheave the system.

Instead we will continue to throw our youth into a game that is impossible to win on their own.

gotta work yourself into debt, then hope to work yourself out of it. what a wonder. i personally think they should start giving out semesterly scholarships for clean piss records, to be honest with you. not like i'd necessarily qualify, but i still believe in it.

Paying off a few loans is a much better life than much of the world has it. If you want some specific examples I'd be glad to go into greater detail, but I don't feel like it right now. Count your blessings.

Just because other people have worse problems that I do, doesn't make my problems any less important to me.

If no one was allowed to make a huff about their personal problems, because SOMEONE has it worse, then no one would be allowed to be concerned with their own problems at all.

I know. I think the same way. It just doesn't seem all that bad. Most people have to pay off some debt and it takes forever, but they always get by and live comfortably. My parents are still paying off their mortgage and my dad is almost 60. But whenever I see him he always takes me out to dinner because when it comes down to it, a nice dinner with your son sounds a whole lot better than putting away a few more dollars for your mortgage. Yeah, straight out of high school you're pretty much given a stack of bills and it sucks - I'm just saying appreciate what you have for now because the bills will get paid... eventually.

Pretty much the point of this post was that EVERYBODY shouldn't have to pay off debt. The fact that the world is set up that you absolutely have to set off into a spiral of debt just because you weren't born rich isn't acceptable in my eyes.
I'm not saying it's not possible to make it through it - I'm saying why should we have to.

Forgive me for not posting on the VT tragedy or Romanian adoption policies, or something equally as tragic. This just happened to be something that was weighing on my mind.
