I admire this man. How long have we finally been in power?
Not even a month. And he's tackling not one, but two big issues!
Patrick Leahy unleashed the opening salvo in, as BushCo calls it, the "fight to the death" over Bush's unitary executive claims; he wants, along with other documents related to the formulation of their torture policies, AG Gonzales' torture memos and communications from when he called the Geneva Conventions "quaint."
In a letter addressed to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, soon to be chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Patrick Leahy (D-VT) has requested the release of documents that outline the Bush Administration's interrogation policies.
The documents, which have long been thought to exist by observers and critics of America's national security policies, were confirmed to exist as the result of a still-pending Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by the ACLU.
Go to teh link to read the whole letter. Its a doozy.
From Media Matters:
Ingraham encourages listeners to jam phone lines of Democratic voter assistance hotlineAs the weblog Firedoglake first noted, during the November 7 edition of her nationally syndicated talk radio show, Laura Ingraham urged listeners to jam the phone lines of 1-888-DEM-VOTE, a voter assistance hotline sponsored by the Democratic Party. Ingraham stated: "I want you to call it and I want you tell us what you get when you call 1-888-DEM-VOTE. They're on top of all of the shenanigans at the polling stations. One problem: you can't get through." Minutes later, while talking with a listener who called the hotline, Ingraham said: "Let's keep 'dem' lines ringing."
Mistake, Laura:
John Amato at Crooks and Liars is reporting that soon-to-be-Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee is calling for DOJ to investigate Laura Ingraham's call for her listeners to jam the Democratic voter assistance hotline.
He has the audio, it's here.
Laura ingraham's show is carried by the Talk radio Network which is also home to such luminaries as Michael Weiner Savage and Jerry Doyle.
Contact Talk Radio Network, and demand Ingraham's suspension or termination in light of the potential investigation. Their affiliate relations number is (888) 383-3733. Emails can be sent to affiliates@talkradionetwork.com.
Amazing how quickly things are turning around! Once we can get legislation against the electronic voting machines through, make an example of laura Ingraham, and set harsher penalties for voter harassment/election fraud, it'll be a HUGE step in the right direction for democracy!
That and tackling the "bad apples" and "plausable deniability" of the realm of mucky torture rhetoric... WHO authorized WHAT?! Brave brave soul. WE need more like him. And this information will be vital both to ourselves, and to the international community in prosecuting the criminals in office for their actions.
It'll be interesting seeing the fight that Bush puts up to this. We already KNOW he won't respect Congresses request on principle... it should be an interesting legal battle.
I'm dancing on tiptoe waiting for January. We can FINALLY beging taking back American from these war criminals!
And I'll leave it there for now, as my bed assaults my ears with a sirens song, and resistance is futile(it IS close to 2 AM after all)

A popular Long Island priest was arrested yesterday on child pornography charges after investigators raided a church rectory and found his computer packed with dirty pictures.
Authorities said the Rev. Thomas Saloy tried to kill himself earlier this week after the FBI discovered 1,300 still photographs and video clips of children engaged in sexually explicit activities.
The frail-looking 45-year-old pleaded not guilty yesterday in a federal court in Central Islip to criminal charges that could put him in prison for 10 years.
Federal Magistrate Michael Orenstein ordered Saloy held in a hospital psychiatric ward.

Keith Olbermann says: "One of the most ingenious aspects of the false charge of an intentional liberal bias in the news media is the unstated inference that if there is a liberal bias there by necessity cannot be an intentional conservative bias."

The New York Times editors write: "The voters sent a clear message last week that they do not want the far right of the Republican Party calling the shots in Washington. But President Bush has ignored the message, resubmitting a group of archconservative, underqualified judicial nominees that Senate Democrats have already said are unacceptable."

"As he packs up his office in the Pentagon, Donald Rumsfeld can look forward to more free time. Before he rings up his travel agent to book any overseas trips, he would do well to consult an attorney," writes Ann Woolner.
