Class today is canceled due to the SUNSHINE!

Last week a friend of mine said, "My proffessor today actually thought about letting us leave class today because it was so sunny today!"  Now if we lived in California this would be a problem.  I'm sure many of you have had those ever praise-worthy "snow days" where school is canceled and you get to stay home all day huddled under a blanket with a nice hot cup of cocoa doing the lastest crossword in the Times.  Right.  And just how much snow was there?  Two inches? Two feet?

Well in all my years of attending school in Alaska I can only remember three snow days.  There were three days in a row where school was canceled due to FREEZING RAIN.  This means that all roads were completely useless for three days.  You might think it interesting to know that our temperature cut off to cancel school is sixty degrees BELOW ZERO.

I propose a sunshine day next time the weather is nice so that all of the cute little eskimo children get to go out and enjoy the brisk fall breeze.  Don't you think we deserve at least that?

Wow! Where did your friend live? I, too, have lived in AK for a while and remember the snow days. I cannot BELIEVE a PROFESSOR would cancel class for the sun! That's amazing, and your friend is totally lucky!

I think you deserve it! We haven't had snow days here in Alabama in so long that they took our weather days out, and THEN it snowed! But some places get snow days, we get hurricane days....

In New Jersey, we get like four snow days and then if it snows again, it's like, oh well. Unless it's REALLY bad; then, they just take the day out of our summer vacation, which doesn't seem very fair to me. We usually just get delayed openings. But anyway, so how do the roads work with snow in Alaska? Do you have like super amazing plows or something? The funny thing is, though, there is another extreme because in like Florida, I've heard that they're never prepared for snow, so if it snows like an inch or two, they have off of school for a day or more.

I think it would be nice to have a first warm temperature day in the Spring or when Mother Nature tricks us by having one or three warm days before the temperatures go back to the cold to give us a chance to go out and enjoy the warm weather before the cold temperatures come back.
