Why I am going back to school

I have great concern for the human condition. Despite vast changes in science, art and humanities, our society is continually deteriorating to lower states of mindless idiocy. Although technology becomes ever increasingly advanced, it is being used to replace instead of enhance the previous generation’s ideas.
My main interest is society’s morality, particularly pertaining to video games. The subject matter in certain games such as Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat have often been used as examples of the corruption of youth and standards. Likewise, certain game systems like the Nintendo Wii have been deemed for child audiences only because their most popular games aren’t violent and mature rated. The creators of all these games are at a valley of society’s demand for quality and so some will make games directed for this need. I see this trend in literature, film and music also. It seems that humanity is destined to collapse under it’s own foolishness. However, like many previous occasions in human history, I feel the human spirit will cast off this heavy slumber, embrace morality and realize it’s own beauty again.
Although I have been writing stories for a while, I admit I do not know how to implement my writing for video games. Therefore, I decided to attend Westwood College, which has a Game Art and Design program. After I get my Game Art and Design associates degree at Westwood College, I see myself designing video games. My games will examine ideas such as whether heroically saving the world against a obvious evil is as important as standing by a friend suffering against slight injustice. Players will understand that similar to reality, attacking innocent bystanders in the street, stealing and committing crimes are not acceptable and will be restrained by harsh penalties. The stories I write will not have happy endings, just inevitable conclusions. The characters I design will not be the superman with unlimited ammunition and plenty of attitude, but a distraught mother searching for her lost child or the soldier trying to balance duty against his ethics with no hope for an pleasant resolution. Although I perceive that some people will not appreciate my games for what I try to achieve, citing that games with morals are not fun, I know that humanity does not have a single factor for fun.
