Can I say how much I hate - and I do mean hate - deleting blogs, moderating comments, unpublishing blogs, blocking user accounts...etc.?
But it's all I seem to do lately. And, apparently, it's all I seem to see several others do as well.
I would much rather read a blog and be able to question whether or not I can promote that blog to the front page rather than look at the blog and have to question whether or not it violated the Terms Of Service. And that's if I can make it through reading the blog without developing a headache.
But the only people I can ask to help me with this problem is you. All I can say is Please Stop:
Please Stop posting blogs that have no relevance to Progressive U's "Progressive Values". I don't care which finger Brittney or Hilton have up which dog's ass; unless they are organizing a protest against something progressive or petitioning to give full and equal rights to American Citizens or running for President - I don't want to hear about them.
Please Stop posting blogs that make no sense. Whether I miss the point because there is no point or I miss the point because it's hidden behind bad formatting... ultimately the failure is that you were not able to communicate your point to me.
Please Stop ruining blogs with pointless comments that attack and hate people. If you hate someone - or their ideas - that much, just clickety-click the back button and find a blog you like! If comments are that offensive to you, flag them! That's what Flag-Boy is there for. Use him!
Please Stop trying to convert every one to share your views and interests. If we all thought the same way - there wouldn't be a need for a site like this to share and discuss ideas, would there? If you absolutely must communicate only with people who agree with you - find a geneticist; they're doing wonders with cloning now and I'm sure if you offer up enough money they'll create your minions for you.
Every time I have to delete a blog or a comment, I feel as though I have to choose between deleting the thought of another blogger, or allowing that post to remain and subsequently delete the heart of this site. Progressive U is only as good as you make it. If you don't put forth your best effort - not just for the contest but as a writer of your ideas and a voice for your blog - then what can you possibly expect to get out of this site?

I would like to add that I would like to see more people adding their opinion to their blogs, rather than just paraphrasing the Associated Press. I care about what you think, how your story relates, and how we can make this country better, so tell me about it!

That's all I have to say.
I've gotten to the point where I'm ignoring bad posts because I don't want to have to write up my complaint to the user and my actions to the Editorial Team. I'd unpublish like, 30 blogs a day because:
1) The content isn't theirs.
2) The blog is typed in a terrible fashion and illegible to anyone with a brain.
3) The blog violates any other random rule in the ToS.

It's crazy. I read EVERY blog posted and about 76% of them make me sad for users just posting to get points. 12% need to be edited. And the other 12% aren't bad, but not promotable.

"Well, fuck you." To me, that's not offensive. To someone else, it might be. It's not a very mature comment. It would be deleted.
"I think you all should burn in hell because you don't believe in Jesus." To me, that's offensive. To the rest of the world, that's normal. It might be deleted.
"I think you make your point but don't do it very well, here's why:" This is not offensive to anyone. It wouldn't be deleted.

After all, isn't that the very purpose of this website? I think this is a great place to discuss current issues that we can all relate to; it is a great place to make your voice heard and let others speak as well so that you can hear their poin of view.
I definitely agree with you.
I'm really disappointed by the people that post work that isn't theirs to just receive the scholarship credit.
I CAN agree with the blogs about Britanny and Hilton, but as for people who disagree, I totally disagree. How else are people going to learn how to communicate with each other if they don't do the 'trial & error' routine? Sometimes it is very frustrating to try and get an idea across, especially when writing it. Sometimes people misunderstand by mis-interpretating it. Surely people already know they have the right to ignore those whose writings are totally unacceptable to them...If you don't give them some room to struggle and hence grow, how progressive is THAT?
BUT IS IT NECESSARY TO TYPE LIKE THIS FOR 4 PARAGRAPHS TO TRY AND GET YOUR POINT ACROSS?

There is all kinds of room to grow. And you can see such growth through several blogs. For example, go look at one of my blogs from June of 2006 and compare it to a blog written in June of 2007. There is a world of difference between the two because I grew and subsequently my blog grew.
And you're right - in this type of communications forum we lose some of the things that we depend on in communications: body language, vocal tone. But we also gain the ability to re-read and double-check what we're trying to say before we actually "open our mouths".
