Who really watches the WATCHMEN?

One spoiler (barely). The trailer’s out with all it’s glory. They got the colors right, they got the music right, they got the quotes right. But Is it right? I’ve been a fan of WATCHMEN for a long time so this movie is a huge deal to me judging by the trailer it won’t do me wrong. But why unfilmable?

Lately the big news with the film is that it was an “unfilmable” script. Everyone’s saying that Watchmen should have never been made into a movie. At least those that really understand the graphic novel. As excited as I am for it, I got to admit…I’m nervous as hell. The book goes through a lot of deep water. But many movies have dealt with deep water before. So why is it so unfilmable? I’ve read a ton of you tube comments and talked to a heap of kids that think this is “Just another action film”. I’ve seen a lot of people say that this is just another “Superhero movie”. Then there are fans that say “None of you understand.” Truth is marketing is really why this unfilmable thing is such a big deal. The audience is split. You’ve got a smart group that think that just another superhero movie isn't worth their time. Then you’ve got a young group that think this is going to be kick-ass action but won’t understand any of the intellectual ideas. Then you’ve got the smart fan group that understand it but will end up hating it because their surrounded by a the young group that doesn‘t comprehend and the smart group that thinks it‘s worthless. It's not about the movie really, it's about the people that watch it.

The movie has to be dumbed down for the young group, (the majority) and the smart fan group will hate that. The movie-goers are really the ones that make the film. It isn’t the quality of the movie or the details in the novel, it’s unfilmable because it’s the clockwork orange of comic books and no matter what you still need asses in the seats. You can’t market to everyone. Especially if the “anti superhero” concept has become a trend, Hancock, Jumper, Hellboy, The Dark Knight.

The trailer comes out and a bunch of 15 year olds think this an awesome flick. Except in this "awesome flick" a “Superhero” ends up shooting and killing a women he got pregnant in Vietnam, because he just didn’t want to deal with it. It’s the trend to make the “real life vigilante” now a days. You don't see Hancock or Hellboy doing that. There is nothing like WATCHMEN...If there is any Anti-superhero WATCHMEN is the real deal. It’s like a whole lot of prepy Goths sitting in a room then a real Satanist walks in.

Watchmen was really one of the first comics that asked the good questions. It looks at the world in dark way. It digs inside the head and takes a look at society in a time of madness. Anyway. I am really excited for the movie! But for anyone reading this, I totally suggest reading the book before it comes out.

I've heard Watchmen is a "must read" for graphic novels. I'll be sure to read it before this movie comes out.

Whatever happens, I don't think the plot should be dumbed down for certain people. If you keep it true to it's original format, I think you'll have more happy fans.
